Im 7+1
GP signed me off with morning sickness yesturday.
(thought GP was over reacting but having not even made it down stairs yet im pleased she did)

Am feeling so so so poorly at the moment and finding it really tough.
Im really tired and have no energy.

If i eat more than a crumb of food or a sip of drink im immediatly sick, and am being sick alot.... even when my stomach is empty im still at the toilet trying to be sick.

Woke up this morning and didnt even need a wee (not surprising as i kept NOTHING down yesturday after midday) and was still vomiting 'nothing' at 2315 last night.

I realise i NEED to at least drink so have been having the tiniest sips of water all morning. (so small they dont need to be swallowed) and have probably managed to keep down 3 - 4 oz of water in total.

In tiny nibbles i have eaten about half a piece of dry toast.

Am really worried. It cant be good for baby. Sad

i know if i eat ANYthing i will be sick within minutes.

about to try some tiny sips of proper coke (I NEVER drink that stuff) but im thinking i need to get some calories in me.
also am about to attempt a ginger nut biscuit (did not stay down yesturday)

please just reassure me that its ok to just eat biscuits and drink coke Shock

i normally eat extreamly healthily and never eat processed food, and it just seems wrong to only be eating crap, especially when i have a baby developing inside me.

Sad Sad Sad

Oh you poor thing, I really feel for you. I am only just 'through the other side' with my morning sickness which I had really badly.

I was like you, in bed, not able to keep anything down. I couldn't bear the sight of anyone I felt so sorry for myself.

I managed to survive on sips of watered down coke and, on a good day, a green apple. Obviously I lost a lot of weight.

Guess what? My bloods are fine, my blood pressure is low but that is preferable to high and baby is absolutely fine. He/she was bouncing around at the 12 week scan as happy as larry in there. Your baby will be growing fine despite how crap you feel. I didn't believe it was possible, but it is! Your body is taking everything to the baby.
You need to try to eat whatever will get you through whether it is processed or not. I craved fast food (which I normally despise) but couldn't keep it down.

Sending you sympathies and the best of luck for your pregnancy.

If you can't keep liquid down then your GP will be able to prescribe something to help. I had Avomine when it got to the stage of only being able to keep the odd ice cube down. NHS direct told me off when I said I was only on ice cubes and told me to go the GP's.

Coke and biscuits will still keep your energy up and keep you hydrated though.

Just don't do anything, rest lots and sleep if you can. It's a wretched symptom to put up with Sad.

Bits of water biscuits worked much better for me than dry toast. Then I progressed to boiled sweets.
Fizzy water or lemonade stayed down better than flat wate for some bizarre reason.

Hope you feel better soon. It is miserable.

nannyl · 26/01/2011 11:37

thanks

that very reassuring!

Well i have nibbled a little bit of biscuit and (at the moment) i think it has made me feel a teeny tiny bit better... not holding my breath though, but crossing my fingers.

been googling morning sickness... seems to suggest its best not to have an empty stomach which is a bit of an issue cause anything i out in my stomach is immediatly regected. agh!

thanks meglet

went to GP yesturday and she said at this stage she would rather not give me any anti-sickness tablets Sad and gave me gaviscon so that when im sick it isnt as harsh and i vomit less blood!

if im like this for more than a couple of days (as am a lot worse now than at 9am yesturday when i visited the dr) then ill go back.

i do undertand that its so so so important not to get dehyrdrated Smile

nannyl Sympathies I am 37 weeks and still very sick. Flat coke, lemonade etc is fab, I found toast, biscuits and especially anything sweet or made from fruit made me a lot worse. Nuts really helped me, sounds strange but dry roasted peanuts, plain cashew nuts really stayed down. I was also recommended Gavison by consultant. I was always a lot sicker from mid morning until about tea time. It was easier for me to eat after 7ish which I know is not great, also even though I didn't want it, I could always keep Chinese food down Hmm I also know a work colleague who had chicken chow mein every night for 6 months of her pregnancy, helped her too. Good luck, I know some days you feel worse than crap. By the way baby is doing absolutely fab, never had any issues re BP, growth etc.

nannyl · 26/01/2011 12:16

thanks wiggles

poor you.... i really hope i dont feel like this in 30weeks time. not sure how id cope.

the one thing thats makes me want to be sick by just thinking about it is rice, so not sure chinese is for me at the moment!.

Im finding that when i eat something and am then sick i dont want to eat that thing again, so am fast running out of things i can even think about trying!

pleased to hear that baby is ok.

have asked OH to bring me some grapes home from work, though probably wont be in the mood for them in 5 hours time Hmm

This baby was grown on full fat coke, dairy milk and the odd satsuma until 17 weeks. Am now 27 weeks and all seems to be fine, so please don't worry about your diet. Try to keep folic acid down if you can - I used to take mine in the morning, and if I was sick within half an hour, take in again (repeat as necessary!!).

Anti-sickness drugs should be fine (I took cyclizine from 8 - 18 weeks), so if you feel you really can't cope / can't keep water down, do go back to your GP. Getting dehydrated is more likely to cause problems.

The only thing that made me feel even slightly better ever was being in water - mainly baths, and occasionally a trip to float (not actually swim!) in the swimming pool. This might be quite unique to me, as I've not heard anyone else recommend it. It just seemed to take the edge of the hideous nausea for a short time (i.e. until I had to get out of the bath / pool).

Sorry you're experiencing this, it really is grim. Hopefully it will pass for you - I suddenly felt well again at about 17 weeks and am now having a very easy pregnancy.

nitnatnaboo · 26/01/2011 20:38

Hi nannyl. Just popped over from Hyperemesis thread. Sorry you've had another bad day.

As with Grumpyfish my first baby was grown on crunchy nut cornflakes, marshmellows and ready salted crisps and was 7lb 12oz.

An empty stomach will definitely be set off by food or drink hitting it but don't be put off eating by being sick - I thought I was helping myself not be sick by not eating first time round but this time I've found that an empty stomach makes me worse.

Just after being sick is the best time to a) clean your teeth and b) eat something - as the gag reflex seems to slacken off after you've just been sick.

Fruit can be hit or miss with me. Grapefruit and melon are ace. Apples and strawberries come straight up within seconds without fail. If grapes don't work, do keep trying different fruits.

I can so empathise...this was me throughout the whole of December! And my first pg too. Eat whatever you can stomach - doesn't matter what it is. I rang me OH on his way home from work demanding fish and chips, olives, mozzarella, frozen pizza. You will make up for it with healthy food in 2nd trimester.
Get out for a walk if you can - that made me feel a bit better. Somewhere not too busy in case you do have to throw up!!! (I did when walking the dog...)

When you feel sick, eat. It's really hard as it's the last thing you want to do, but it helps.

Keep busy to keep your mind off it, but nothing taxing (films are good).

Mine began to pass both times at around 10 weeks. But even now (15 weeks) I still can't eat the foods I could stomach when I was sick (esp milkshakre, crunchy nut cornflakes, olives) and even TV shows I watched/books I read to my LO still make me feel pukey!!!

nappyaddict · 27/01/2011 23:42

I know someone who had it from 6 days after conception right up to 37 weeks.

Someone else I know had it 2 days after ovulation up to 24 weeks.
