I was shredding away happily and about to start level 2 when I got my BFP! Lovely news but am a bit depressed that I'm 10lb heavier than when I started my last pg.

any suggestions for daily exercise to keep me vaguely toned?

my doctor said breaststroke could cause an SPD. i think it is ridiculous!! maybe this is the case for people who are completely out of shape or don't really know how to swim?? my mom was a professional swimmer in her youth and says all women she knows swim breaststoke in pregnancy. in the usa, for instance, women are allowed to do breasstoke... i still do breaststoke (and not tell my doctor), but I swim other styles as well... i suppose one must listen to her body as with any form of excercise...

I do breaststroke all the time (well the times I'm in a swimming pool) and it doesn't seem to have done me any harm, in fact it's the only thing that helps my lower back pain. I would say there probably are pregnancy related conditions that mean it's not the best choice for everyone, you just need to listen to your body and be prepared that some days you won't be able to do all that you want to.

Like others I do thoroughly recommend pregnancy yoga but if you went into looking for a workout then you're likely to be disappointed, I've found it a great way to get some time out from my life, stretch out the aches in my shoulders from my desk based job, focus on getting my head & breath in tune with my body to get ready for labour and a great way to meet other nice pregnant women.

Breastroke can indeedy trigger SPD. Had some warning signs before, but from straight out of the pool it felt "wrong" and needed crutches the next day - I had basically dislocated my pelvis!

And yes I do know how to swim, and was not out of shape - was in the gym for 30mins-45 every morning using treadmill, cross trainer, weights etc and a "can just talk level", sailing at a weekend, LONG brisk walks in the hills etc.

The kick was enough to set it off - but then I am hypermobile and my joints are all super flexible anyway (knee/arms etc backwards lots)and the relaxin hormone just had released the pelvic joints, so all it took was one swim to upset things.

And I'm only second trimester...

I think it depends how "loose" your joints are to start with, and how much the relaxin hormone is affecting your body.

I have to say that I am quite hurt by the implication that I don't know how to swim or am unfit - I was doing cross-country running at a lunchtime up till the snow before Christmas. And weekly yoga. And the gym and sailing/walks previously mentioned.

Gosh listing it like that sounds like an awful lot...

Maybe in hindsight that was the problem!
