Is it just me or is it wrong to leave it to chance?

Saw doc today after having growth scan (cos have high bp) who obviously didn't want to go into great depth about what might happen if she is still transverse as she has been all the way through, as "there is plenty of time for baby to turn" and Im only 28+4. I know all that. I also know as its my 6th child and I am overweight to start with, chances are it won't stay if it does. Not being pessimistic, just realistic. Want to be prepared. It has room to turn back and do cartwheels as she said. She said every baby is an individual, which it is, but if the womb is already baggy and it has lots of room to lie however it wants, its not likely to move.

Now she said at one time they had you in at 34 weeks and if it hadn't turned, they started you off. When I had DS (youngest) I was in at 37 weeks, when he got to 38 weeks, I got him to put his head down and they whisked me down to break my water while he was right way up.

But apparantly they don't do that now!!! They "leave it to chance", they might turn it, in which case if it works, they will send me home and await natural delivery. If it doesn't, I will be admitted and if it still doesn't move, then they "might" do a section at 39/40 weeks. She said they don't induce you anymore unless there are complications or its overdue.

Now my theory is, ignore gravity as we know it doesn't always follow head goes down. What happens if it turns when they scan it, then it goes back the other way? Unless they do multiple scans they won't know its moved (and being overweight they can't just feel it as they got it wrong last time!)

Is it wrong of me not to agree that everything is fine leaving it to chance?? Its unlikely my water will go early, but surely if its still transverse at 38 weeks it would be better to have a CS than run the risk of something happening. Or at least start me off if they can get her head down. It seems like they don't really care particularly, until its too late.

Whilst I have no experience of your particular situation, I know exactly what you mean when it comes to your instints being dismissed and how certain things aren't a reason for induction In my case, I am GBS positive and was told I'd need antibiotics during labour, at least two doses, hours apart. When I told several midwives and the consultant, all on different occasions that I labour very quickly and was concerned about even getting to the hospital let alone bein able to get the antibiotics I was dismissed. When I said, again more than once, that I felt the best thing to do would be to set an induction date, start the antibiotics, and then when the second lot were due to go in to actually induce me, I was told 'it's not a reason to induce'. Cut to me, 12 hours after my son FLEW out as I thought, cryin my eyes out, helping to hold him down whilst they cannulated him for iv antibiotics (and the bloody woman took three attempts to get it in - was agony to watch) because his temp was up over his first three observations. I know in the scheme of things, there are worse things to go through, but I can't help feeling - no, knowing - that if they'd taken my suggestion it would have been avoided.

I'm pregnant again. How the hell do I get them to take me seriously, especially as I still feel traumatised over the whole thing?

I'm so sorry you're kinda in the same situation as me (albeit, different). I hope you can get them onside, but if not really hope things turn out well for you.

Omg thats so awful :( Their attitude is well most babies are ok, thats not good enough.

My mum was in labour for over 3 days, but only 2cm dilated, and was sent home. On the 4th day they decided to do something. Too late. That attitude was there as well, well most babies are ok....

They should listen to us mums, especially if we have had previous pregnancies. Every baby is different, but our wombs are still the same ones! They might be the experts, but if every baby is different they should take that into consideration.

I had a really good doc with DD, he used the slightest excuse to induce me as she was over a week late as they were quiet. Weren't the night she was born, but she was quick when they finally broke my water. Classic example, the boys were all 12 hours, she was 1hr 24 mins. So how can they go by that!

I am hoping on 36 week appt, that I have someone else. She was good in some ways, but seeing as they want me to keep my bp constant, leaving it like that isn't going to help. You would have thought with me being told to watch out for pre eclampsia they would care more as well.

I hope you get someone good this time, with any luck with what you went through last time, they will take you more seriously this time x
