Work trousers which don't look obviously maternity?

Just that really. Has anyone had a good pair they can recommend? I'd rather not look pregnant in work before I need to if you see what I mean. I find that its all people talk about once they know!

you could just get normal ones a size up, or non maternity but strecthy jersey pinstripe ones from M&S are great- wore mine to death last time and this. They come in different lengths too.

I got some smart black trousers from Topshop a few months back so should still have them. They sort of sit on my bump now at 25 weeks but were great early on as you could pull them right in with the elastic bits so didnt look obviously like maternity ones. I think they were £28. Comfy and wash well (I'm wearing/washing them constantly).

Found some in matalan maternity, black with very discrete stretchy side panel which top went over anyway, very comfy and smart.

sorry i mean elastic tab bits inside with buttoms to change the size of them to expand with bump.

I'm not normally a big fan of Next clothes, but have to say their maternity trousers have been fantastic.

thefurryone · 25/01/2011 17:03

I also have the topshop trousers they are really good.

topshop trousers

Furryone, would you get ur own size in those or go one down? I had to go one down with mamas and papas.

Cocoa, can I ask the same size question of you please?

Thanks for replying

Hiya - I got a couple of pairs from Benetton: they look smart, are supercomfy, and I am sure no one actually noticed they are maternity trousers.

They were 50% off when I got them a few weeks ago - not sure if the sale is still on.

I got them in my regular size which looks great now (17 weeks); no idea how they will look in the 3rd trimester but I'm hoping by then it will be time for dresses!

parsleysandwich · 25/01/2011 17:48

I'm also living in stretchy pinstripe ones from M&S (black and grey). I had two pairs of them as nice work trousers before getting pregnant, and they still work ok in my usual size now I'm at 17 weeks (whereas most of my other trousers haven't fitted for at least a month). Apart from that I've also started doing dresses and leggings. I suspect in another month or two I will need to resort to proper maternity trousers, but by then there won't be any hiding things anyway Smile.

I can recommend Red Herring at Debenhams. There seem to be alot of diffent types but the ones I got have the shocking pink lining on the waistband. £22 and very comfy...teamed with a dark top noone even notice my bump and I am 20 wks...with a BIG bump!

cocoachannel · 25/01/2011 18:56

Hi- I got my normal size (12). I am very average size/ height and they fit well, but the best thing is they wash and tumble nicely (no ironing!).

LDNlady · 25/01/2011 19:02

I managed to find some at Red Herring and New Look. The ones from New Look are REALLY comfy.

DomesticGoddess31 · 25/01/2011 19:13

I got some perfect ones from gap, full over bump stretchy panel and v comfy.

arabella36 · 25/01/2011 20:58

Thanks for all those suggestions, that's a fantastic help!

I second Gap Maternity - v comfy and not too 'maternity' looking.

thefurryone · 27/01/2011 14:18

arabella36 sorry for not coming back sooner I couldn't remember what size I'd bought and had to check. I got a 12 and they fit quite well, if anything they are quite roomy. I would normally be a 12 or 14 in trousers depending on the style, as my waist size isn't what clothes designers expect it to be be based on the size of my hips.

Lynzilove · 31/01/2011 10:23

Just bought some from Asda - only £12. unde the bump style but the trousers themselves are also a bit stretchy so they are dead comfy!!

ChessyEvans · 31/01/2011 11:43

Yep I second (or third?!) Red Herring at Debenhams, I had several people ask me where I got them as they looked so smart and nobody twigged at all. Mine have elastic panels that button up to be an adjustable waist, and then a fabric belt thing covers up the elastic so you can't tell. Mine are grey pinstripe. Also got some from Next and they were fine but my Red Herring are my favourites! Smile

ChessyEvans · 31/01/2011 11:45

Oh and re size, if you're getting the maternity version then I'd say stick to your normal size - I think they tend to be a bit more generous anyway on the maternity ones and/or more stretchy material. I'm 29 weeks now and still comfortably in my size 12s. Smile

farawaytrees · 31/01/2011 13:41

I've got some nice maternity work trousers from top shop they have elastic on the sides and a moving tap with buttons. They look like normal fashionable trousers rather than maternity wear.
