3 days now. I'm too scared to go!

What should I do? Trying to breastfeed so can't take anything to make it easier but feels like if I go I will do myself a horrible damage. Midwife swore it would be fine but I don't belive her Blush

Should I just push myself?

Lactulose is your best friend. 1 tbsp, an hour later you'll be a happy woman.
One piece of advice, when you wipe, use something like unscented lotion or aloe vera gel (obviously pick something you're not allergic to) on the toilet paper to wipe yourself clean. Much gentler than TP alone, even moistened TP.

MoonFaceMamaaaaargh · 25/01/2011 07:04

OH dear, I remember it well Sad

My only advice is to make sure you are drinking plenty of water. BF can really take fluids out of you and that is no friend of the reluctant poo.

I just really took my time...take a book a la a man. DH was terrifed of the sounds coming from the smallest room... Blush SOrry , hope I haven't scared any one too much. It does pass (hehe).

lactulose, dried apricots, licorice, water, more water. And baby wipes afterwards.

MrsNoggin · 25/01/2011 09:14

I seem to remember dreading it and holding it in for about a week! Then I went and it was fine. A bloody relief actually. Not literally bloody!

If you have stitches just hold a pad against them if it makes you feel better, less vulnerable, IYSWIM. And try to get ten minutes or so alone to just sit there and let it work it's way down (sorry!) rather than pushing a lot.

MrsNoggin · 25/01/2011 09:15

Meant to add good luck! Smile

Paribus · 25/01/2011 09:55

Lactulose, fresh kiwi, prunes should help you.

Hk13 · 25/01/2011 09:55

Prune juice was my best friend when I had ds via an epesiotomy and 3rd degree tear and iron tablets! Hold your nose and gulp a glass down, dry heave and drink a glass of water. Not pleasant but effective!
Good luck!

compo · 25/01/2011 09:57

It's ok to gently push
have you got any lactulose or can you send anyone out?
It'll be fine, good luck!

ThatllDoPig · 25/01/2011 11:56

Hello evildead and CONGRATULATIONS! How did you get things going in the end with the labour?
The first poo is scary as hell, but it will be ok. Agree with poster about baby wipes or witch hazel. And lots of water. You can do it!!

MummyAbroad · 25/01/2011 14:01

use a small footstool when you are sitting on the loo. It gets you in a better position so you dont have to push too much. I was scared too, but I think its mostly psychological (you have done enough pushing things out from down there and dont really want to do it again!) but physically its fine.

Magen · 25/01/2011 18:25

I had a forceps delivery with a third degree tear. The first time I went was uncomfortable, but it is nothing you can't bear. And once the first time is out of the way the ones after that are significantly easier. I live in the America and they sent me home with pain medicine that was safe to take while BF, if they do the same over there, take one before you goSmile.

MissQue · 25/01/2011 18:29

You've just squeezed a baby out, a poo will be nothing in comparison :D Seriously, what they all said, I held a pad over my stitches when I did it and it was fine.

My first poo post C-section was creamy beige colour Shock Apparently it was because I'd had to have suppository painkillers Confused

lillybloom · 25/01/2011 18:38

Regulan sachets worked wonders for me.You have to ask for them in the chemist.

Marlinspike · 25/01/2011 18:40

Hold a san towel against your perineium. v scary, but you will be fine, and feel great afterwards!

MoonFaceMamaaaaargh · 25/01/2011 19:39

MissQue I rememeber it as being worse!

Though maybe that's just the lack of oxcytocin?

Though I do joke the DH that next time I'm taking a canister of gas and air home...

SOrry OP...I'm sure yours won't be as bad...no doubt I am a pussy Grin

spikydahlia · 25/01/2011 19:43

I was really scared about this with my DC1. I actually stayed in hospital until I had gone!! I found that eating loadsa oranges and drinking water helped. I think during labour you must have a good 'clear out' and afterwards you don't actually need to go for a while. Having said that when I did (day 3) It was ok. My stitched stayed put it wasn't really painful and holding a pad over my front bits did give me a sense of security. It really was ok. I thought I was going to split in two but actually it was fine and I felt like doing a little dance!! Grin

MoonFaceMamaaaaargh · 25/01/2011 20:27

SPikey my experience was different me thinks...TMI...I didn't have clear out during labour and think it all got compacted iyswim...I did warn ya!
SO that coupled with stitches and nowt quite working as it should down there at the time made it a bit scary!

But it all came good in the end. Smile

I think I'm spending too muc time on this thread...

Chelle1986 · 25/01/2011 20:40

The postnatal poo was scarier for me than the labour! I was in tears before I even had to try and do it!

Try a suppository - or some califig. Thats how I managed it after 4 days...!

spikydahlia · 25/01/2011 20:42

TEE HEE moonface TV is crap anyway.

LadySanders · 25/01/2011 20:43

lots and lots of califig, you can get it in any chemist or supermarket.

MoonFaceMamaaaaargh · 25/01/2011 20:54

yes spiky...poo init Wink

TheEvilDead2 · 25/01/2011 21:46

Good to know I'm not the only one who is (not quite litterally) scared shitless of the loo! I will try some of the suggestions, i've been eating prunes hopefully it will all come out fine in the end.. so to speak

ThatllDoPig nothing I did got it working! The baby just came when the baby finally felt like coming :) thank you btw x
