I am suffering horrendously from extremely painful trapped wind. Anyone else? It's soooo painful! Crikey. And the main issue is that it won't come out easily.
Bought some windeze which are safe in pregnancy, think they're helping a little...

I can sympathise Nelly, have had really bad wind (both front end and back end!) throughout my entire pregnancy.

Last week I had a couple of bouts where it took my breath away and I could hardly walk for a minute or so. Thought it may be Braxton Hicks but soon realised what it was!

Some days I feel like I am just getting (and letting out) wind all bloody day long, it is so annoying.

Haven't heard of Windeze but I think I'll definitely check it out.

Fennel tea!

I suffered with trapped wind after my DS was born and it was crippling. I literally couldn't move with the pain. A friend witnessed one of my attacks and produced a cup of fennel tea that she'd used with her baby when she had trapped wind and it worked a treat Smile. I now keep a box of twinnings fennel tea bags in my cupboard (and one bag in my handbag for emergencies!) and find if I make myself a cup just as I feel an attack coming on it actually helps prevent it most of the time.

Ok good to add fennel tea to the list. Thanks luna. I nearly got sick on way home from work this eve as pain was so bad and it was making me feel weak.

Yes check out windeze hoola, it's in Boots in the digestive area ie Rennies etc.... I popped in this evening and was so relieved there was something safe for pregnancy!!!!

Oh yes. I feel like a barrage balloon most days, and it makes me nauseous. Windeze does help, but the only real relief I get is retching over the toilet bowl until the wind comes up (I've never been able to burp). It's most unpleasant. Will try the fennel tea though, Luna, thanks for the tip! I don't particularly like the taste of fennel but I'll try anything.

Peppermint tea or peppermint cordial is supposed to be good for relieving trapped wind. I also recommend Asda's fruit flavoured ant acid tablets. They were a life saver when i had really bad wind (with gall bladder pain).

Wind...a lesson I have learnt this week...
When 18 weeks pregnant and suffering from moerate wind do not under any circumstances think that Jerusalem artichoke soup is a good idea. It was possibly the most delicious soup I have ever eaten but 12 hours later I was doubled up in pain and thought that I was going to spontaneously combust Blush

My mother suffered with it while she was pregnant and a midwife taught her a very simple exercise which helps to release the wind into the atmosphere (from the back end).

Basically, you get on all fours into a comfortable position with your knees bent at 90' angle and lower your head to the ground, resting it on your hands with your behind sticking up in the air (keeping your back straight). The trick is to get comfortable and relax your belly and back and let gravity work its magic.

Naturally, one looks like a tool while doing it, but it worked for my mum all those years ago and now it works for me.

i was going to suggest yoga, but I think what youngblowfish describes would work too

Bensmum76 · 25/01/2011 05:16

As an IBS sufferer I would have to agree the young blowfish is right, the positions mentioned really help. I am 36 weeks pregnant and at times have thought I was going into labour with my trapped wind pain!

jasmine51 · 25/01/2011 13:04

You have my sympathy..after suffering iron tablet induced constipation I thought I'd eat a tin of baked beans to 'get things moving' - the result was 24 hours of blowing up like a barrage balloon, a sleepless night and still no movement. Am a bit worried that at yoga tonight we will do that position that has been mentioned and the walls of the yoga studio will quake Blush

vallinnapod · 25/01/2011 13:50

I am suffering terribly too, and with constipation, probably worse due to the fact I am on 400mg Cyclogest 3 times a day!

Colpermin is really good.

On thing I have noticed makes it worse was that I have been taking Fybogel and Lactulose to try and ease the constipation and this combo gives my terrible trapped wind :(

Looking forward to trying the all-fours-bum- wiggle suggestion...in fact may pop to the disabled loo now... Grin

spikydahlia · 25/01/2011 19:34

I am please it isn't just me. I spoke to my 'mummy-mates' about this and they just thought I was weird!

I find it worst when I'm walking a little way and I gradually get slower and slower until I feel I'm about to have a contraction or something.....but no....just one extremely loud fart and I'm back to normal speed and feel so much better. (Apart from the embarassment and looks from nearby shoppers!!)

Sossiges · 25/01/2011 19:40

Magnesium is an excellent cure for constipation (the Boots own brand one is good), just take 1 or 2 capsules at night & you're laughing.
