I missed my footing going up the kerb walking home from work! Went sprawling out grazing my hand and leg.

I think bump is OK as I didn't land directly on it. Just waiting for some reassuring kicks.

Think I have broken my toe though :(

How many weeks are you?

I guess if you're waiting for kicks, at least 16+ so my ancedote may not be helpful... but at around 8 weeks with DD I 'fell' down two steps whilst holding a tray of stuff. My instict was to save the tray (I was at work, waitressing) so held that out as I went down and landed almost flat on my stomach. I guess when 'they' say the baby is well protected, they're right - she was absolutely fine!

Hope you get kicks soon, try a very cold or hot drink to start baby off?

When I was last pregnant I fell hard on some ice once (7 months) and down the stairs (8 months) and all was fine. I think most people manage it at some stage during pregnancy due to compromised balance. You will be fine.
xx

Ooop, I forgot the sympathy!

Poor you! No, seriously. A broken toe hurts like hell and notmuch can actually be done for it.

whomovedmychocolate · 24/01/2011 19:11

Fell twenty feet off ladders - twice - before I even knew I was pregnant with DD. Broke a toe but not the baby!

MandaHugNKiss · 24/01/2011 19:13

wmmc once, I can understand (ok, I can't...twenty feet? What were you doing woman?!) But TWICE?! That's just plain careless. Grin

I'm 30 weeks, have felt a couple of movements so I think she's fine. My toe is bloody killing me though!

I was decorating the ceiling of a chapel we own.

whomovedmychocolate · 24/01/2011 19:33

The second time was more stupid TBH, knowing I had a really sore foot I went back up and then realised I couldn't climb down and thought 'I know, I'll slide down the ladder instead' Hmm

Hopefully my kids will be smarter than me Blush

I was in a head on car crash at 30mph last Thursday, went and got baby monitored and she is absolutely fine. They are hardy wee things and protected by a lovely big cushion of water.

Much sympathy on the toe though, it bloody hurts!

hoolabombshell · 24/01/2011 20:14

I agree that babies are hardy things and are well protected in there, think bubble wrap and then some. I would be more concerned about the broken toe, you poor thing.

I slipped and fell on some ice 2 weeks ago at 34 wks, banging the side/front of bump, although I felt movements almost immediately after so think baby was just mad at being woken up! I got a fright more than anything and was blubbering like an idiot.

Have an ice cold glass of water or a wee poke around your bump, am sure you'll be fine :)

DS (13 yrs old) kicked me fairly hard in my tummy when I was 29 weeks. Sounds as if he's a thug but is actually a lovely boy Grin - we were having a pillow fight and he was attempting to kick the pillow out of my hand. I was terrified (although wasn't quite as distraught as lovely DS)!

Bump was fine - baby was fine - DS still traumatised!!

thefurryone · 25/01/2011 11:29

You poor thing, hope you don't have too many problems with your toe.

I have had 3 falls during my pregnancy, I fell off a scooter at 8 weeks, over on the ice at 20 weeks and down the stairs at 25 weeks, none of which have had an impact on my bump. My DH witnessed the last fall and was a bit shaken up although as I felt kicks quite quickly afterwards I didn't feel that I needed any medical attention. We both found the passage on falling over in what to expect quite reassuring as it basically points out that what with having a changed centre of gravity and not being able to see our feet pregnant women do pretty well to remain upright for the majority of the time but that because the babies are so well cushioned behind abdominal wall, thickened uterine muscles, and the amniotic sac it takes what would be considered major trauma for them to come to harm.

Having said that don't be shy about calling your midwife if you feel you need to.

lowra · 25/01/2011 17:23

Thanks for all your sympathy and reassurance! Toe is still a bit sore but probably not broken. baby kicking like mad (whish she would kick a herself into the right position but that's another story for another day).

Sounds like I came off quite unscathed compared to some of you ladies.

Lowra x
