Bell ringing whilst pregnant

Anybody done it? Any reason why I shouldn't?

When I was pregnant with my first I carried on kayaking and raced until 5 months and coached until about 38 weeks but I'bv been doing it for years and I know what my body can do in a boat.

I'm just not sure whether there are risks with ringing. Anybody know anything?

Can't pretend I know about bell ringing itself, but the exercise related guidance I've been following has been mostly "if you're used to it, carry on doing it, but listen to your body and don't overheat". Not sure if this is handbells or ropes - given the question I imagine as a good upper body workout you'd need to find alternatives to any moves that make you bend at the waist. If you're still kayaking etc I'm sure the muscles are in good shape to take it on.

There have been lots of threads on here about noise & babies in the womb: I wonder if you can apply the dog-barking principle, ie the baby is likely to get used to it so might sleep through it when small. Sorry not to be an expert, congratulations and good luck with your pregnancy.

I thought this was going to be about a euphemism Blush, and now have the Anita Ward song going round my head.....

Is bell-ring a euphemism?

Round here it means wanking.

Ooopsadaisy · 23/01/2011 16:30

Whoops - I meant bell-ringing.

And I've x-posted.

Sorry - off to have that wank now.

I think I must lead a very sheltered life. Blush

agree with the above, but would be careful late into pregnancy, for two reasons:

your ligaments are softened considerably and you may jar your muscles

it's quite a lot of stress on your abdominals, so probably get hold of a bump band from a pregnancy physio or back support.

wouldn't be worried about the noice though.

What the hell is this post all about? haha! Totally confused :)

Thanks guys. To be honest, in terms of noise I think the tower is pretty safe - its much quieter in the ringing toom than outside!

Rang on Sunday and came home feeling sick and dizzy so I guess at the moment 20 mins ringing is probably enough (could make Thursday's 90 minute practce interesting)!
