Hiya I'm a new member and this is my first post :)

Im 34 weeks pregnant and we've recently got cot, pram and other bits and pieces. After a lot of umming and awwing we bout the Quinny buzz travel system, however we haven't bought the carrycot as, with an RRP of £155 we weren't sure how much we would actually be using it. I talked to my midwife and she said the carseat is fine as long as I wasn't leaving him in it for long periods of time, which we wouldn't do. I just thought I'd see what other peoples experiences where and if they thought it was worth buying the carrycot.

Thank you any suggestions would be very much appriciated :)

I have the quinny buzz too and have not yet bought my carrycot but I do intend to.

As far as I know your LO shouldn't be in the car seat for more than an hour or so. A carrycot allows him/her to lie flat which helps them digest their food - or so I was told when I asked the same question.

Seriously though - don't pay £155 for it. Firstly even if you intend to buy it new it was on sale at Babies R Us for £109 about 2 weeks ago - check that it might still be. I'm buying mine of e-bay, most of them have been used only once or twice so basically new anyway!

We've got the Quinny Buzz for our first, so no experience to share yet.

We bought the whole lot - chassis, bag, carry cot, pushchair seat, multiple cosy-toes, raincovers, etc. off ebay (including car seat, although I might replace this bit with new) for £200.

The theory being that with family upcountry, we'll get a lot of use out of the carrycot whether it's visiting or just using around the house in place of a moses basket (we've got a crib too, but I imagine it'll stay upstairs most of the time).

It was all in great condition, it's not the latest model, but we took that to mean it lasted and was highly useful!

I have only ever brought a pram that has the lie down option as you can't leave them in carseats as its back for there spine and they are nice and cumfy in carrycots and so handy for if you have been out and baby is asleep you can just leave them in pram instead of having to disturb them. Also handy for if you go out to friends house or anywere the baby can sleep in pram and your not worrying about the time there in there like you would with a car seat.
Like other people have said maybe do look around on ebay and things like that because if you have big baby they will grow out of It fast but personally I think there worth the extra expense.

I agree with the other posters that you should get a carry cot. We have a Britax and got a good deal on the whole package, and I admit one of the reasons I discounted the Quinny was because it was so pricey. But as the others have said you'll probably to be able to get one on ebay, and try freecyle / NCT nearly new sales too.

look here

We only really used the car seat on the pram if we were doing short shopping trips we'd used the car for. It's good to have, esp if the baby is asleep. But the carrycot option is fab, as it bascially does the same job as a moses basket and they are so comfy in them

hmm, am going to disagree with others on here. depends, if you have the money to spare, then fine, but your LO will grow out of the carrycot very quickly and they are bulky to transport etc. A Moses basket is about £25. You LO will be fine in the car seat bit so long as its not for hours t a time. As with all things pram related, it entirely depends on how you are planning to use it.

I had the Quinny buzz for DC1, we bought the carry cot as well, I loved the whole thing but I didn't use the carry cot that much. Trixie is right they grow out of it so fast, DC2 was a 9lb odd at birth and outgrew it in no time. DC1 was in it longer as she was a bit smaller. If you are planning to walk out a lot from home then I think you would get more use from the carry cot but it is pretty bulky to unload from the car (I took it out in the car shopping once). Before you know it they are big enough for the pushchair part anyway (which they love as they are lying so they can see you on a bed of luxurious memory foam!).

I think it depends when your DD is, I always kept the DC out of the car seat more in the summer as they get so hot in there, in winter I'm not as quite as worried.

My Quinny has gone now, with DC3 on the way I have gone all phil and teds! I sold my pretty much perfect carry cot on gumtree very cheaply, all the covers are washable and the woman who bought it was going to buy a new mosses mattress and trim it a bit to make fit.

Hi Annpan

Just to say that I bought a nearly new dreamii from Ebay last week for £35. I have picked it up and its like new. Thought it wasn't worth spending the extra £100 for something that my baby will only use for the first few months.

Good luck ! Grin

Babies need to be flat when newborn for their breathing depends on your lifestyle but carrycot is essential for me I walk everywhere will use for daytime sleeps as not getting Moses basket and useful for overnight trips in early months.

bessie26 · 23/01/2011 21:59

We had the Quinny Buzz & used the carrycot loads. I used to take DD out for 1.5hr walk every day & she slept very happily in it Grin

It's very handy having more than one place for the baby to sleep in the house too - she sometimes used to sleep downstairs in the Quinny to save me the bother of bringing the moses basket downstairs, and we used to take it for her to sleep in when we went to visit grandma.

Look out for special offers, we got all ours from kiddicare &/or ToysRus (but that was 2.5 years ago!)
