25 weeks- sudden shift in baby movements?

Hi

I am currently 25+5 and woke up today with hardly any baby movement. Up until yesterday evening the baby has been extremely active, kicking my ribs a lot- it has been very strong and uncomfortable.

It feels like from today, there has been a definite shift in movement. The only flutters I am feeling are very low down in my pelvis.

Is this normal? Does this just mean that the baby has changed postion and is now breech? I will check with the midwife but am assuming she will say all's ok.

Baby may have shifted round to face your back so you won't be feeling the movements as strongly anymore. I would still make an appointment to get checked over by your midwife but wouldn't be too worried.

Are the movements just in a different place or are there a lot less than there were before? Has it been 'hardly any movement' all day? If so I would go and get checked out tbh, just to be on the safe side.

Leilababyno1 · 20/01/2011 22:58

The movements are definitely less today. Have felt a few rumbling type movements and some popping, but as I said these movements are very low down in my pelvis. My mid-wife is only in sugery at my docs on a Monday and Tuesday. So, who should I call if movements are still slow tomorrow??

I had this around 25/26 weeks. I had to do some serious poking to get baby to move. I think maybe he was having a growth spurt and went quiet. As soon as I hit 30 weeks he sprung into life and during some days he moves non stop.

Are there things that prompt your baby eg cold drinks, lying on back, sweet foods?

sh77 · 20/01/2011 23:11

If you still worried, call ante natal clinic or labour ward.

pozzled · 20/01/2011 23:15

Yes, I would give the labour ward a call so that you can talk to a mw there. If they are concerned they can call you in and monitor the baby- let them decide.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 20/01/2011 23:18

Have a cold drink and lie down on your left side for 10-15 mins. If you still can't feel much then I would give the labour ward a call.

All is most likely fine, the stage you are at the baby has tons of room to move and may well have turned over and/or spun round. If all the kicks and punches are being aimed at your placenta then you won't feel much.

TaperJeanGirl · 20/01/2011 23:23

Just my opinion, but any sudden decrease in movements needs to be checked out...., not trying to worry you but its best to ring labour ward, I am pretty certain they will tell you to come in for some monitering, just to be on the safe side Smile

systemsaddict · 20/01/2011 23:54

Yes agree with everyone do call labour ward, better safe than sorry, probably an innocent explanation but if movements reduce they will probably want to put monitors on you for half an hour or so just to check all is well, they will be able to ask the questions they need to to see if you should go in. Let us know how you get on.

Blatherskite · 21/01/2011 06:38

If you have to wait till Monday/Tuesday, I'd ring the labour ward too. They're very used to Mums coming in for exactly this situation - believe me

It is very, very likely to be nothing more than baby shifting so kicks are where you can't feel them but it's best to be sure

pozzled · 21/01/2011 10:10

Just wondered how you're doing this morning Leila. Did you speak to the labour ward? Hope all is well.

Hi all,

Still no movement this afternoon. Called the hospital. Got to go into the day assessment unit for monitoring. Will let you know how it goes- fingers crossed!

Just got back from Kingston hospital. They were fantastic, I was seen straight away and monitored for 1 hr. Baby seems fine, heart beat all ok. Senior mid-wife did measure me though, and found me to be measuring very large- 30 weeks when I am only just 26 weeks?! They also did a urine sample and found some protein. So, gonna get checked out for suspected gestational diabetes. So, all in all I have had quite an eventful day.

I know I am in excellent hands though, and will hopefully receive my results back from the lab soon.
