Try last minute cancellations, marquee in garden / field / country pub garden, getting married mid week in quiet season (ie fairly soon), hire a restaurant - you basically need to think outside the box as the word wedding typically doubles the cost..

Wedding dress second hand in your size (loads of people sell them on ebay) and rope people in to help on everything! Invitations can be made, flowers cost a fortune so think about alternative decorations maybe apart from your bouquet, friend to do your hair, you can do your own make up, one of my friends had her bridesmaid baking cupcakes into the early hours of the morning the night before the wedding..

Food is the other really expensive item so maybe think about getting married later in the day and just having an evening party so you don't have to provide food. If you wanted to have food, maybe think about something like fish and chips wrapped in paper and ice creams etc very trendy..

Get wedding magazines off someone who has got married recently for ideas - they will be glad to offload them!

When and where are you thinking?

On line invitations or make you own. Hobby craft do basic kits that you can then print and decorate yourself.

Get a friend or family to do decorations for the venue.

Buy a cake from M&S, plain white royal icing, and decorate with flowers.

Keep your numbers small for the reception and invite others in the evening.

Church weddings fees are always cheaper than registry ones but then you need a car to get from one venue to the other.

Hope some of this is useful and Good luck.

Flowers - We paid £20 a table (10 tables in all) for 10 Calla Lillies and long grass. It was striking but could easily be done by a friend or family member. You can hire long vases from most florists for about £2 a vase. Online may be cheaper.

I did this :)
Civil ceremony then lunch in a restaurant (one that doesn't charge room hire). no evening do.
Sunflowers are the cheapest flowers and look striking with minimal amount
Dress- google tiffany Rose - not mega cheap, but on eBay sometimes
Wedding list- honeymoon fund (or baby fund I guess)

Pm me if you want any more info

Don't be afraid to haggle. With the exception of the Registrars fees, we didn't pay full price for anything. For example, the photographers prices were advertised as "starting" from £1,100. We contacted her, told her we loved her work but only had a budget of £500 and would she be able to do anything for us (particularly on the basis it was relatively short notice and she was unlikely to get any other bookings) and she did the £1,100 package for £500.

Don't bother with things like favours etc. In fact, if you have a hot/cold buffet, you can get rid of seating plans, menus, table flower arrangements and save a fortune and loads of hassle.
