ICandy Peach or Bugaboo Cameleon?

Apologies if this post should sit somewhere else, but I'm really keen to hear opinions on these prams. I know they are both a bit pricey but as we are lucky enough to be getting most other things second hand from friends and family we are happy to splash out a bit on the pram.

The pros of the ICandy as far as I can tell is that if we do have a DC2 (that is the plan, but I'm only 25 weeks with DC1 so aware that plans may change!) it can be adapted to take two children. My friend who has one also swears it's incredibly easy to collapse, and generally the best thing since sliced bread.

On the other hand, EVERYONE else seems to have a Bugaboo, which suggests it really is the best pram to have if, like us, you live in London, don't have loads of space, and tend to walk/use public transport rather than drive? (Or is it just a status symbol in SW London??)

Thanks!

Another one who's just bought an iCandy Peach for DC1 who is due in early May.

To be fair, the Bugaboo was my second option, but for me, the iCandy was more easy to collapse and lighter to pick up. Plus it was cool enough to suit my delusions of yummy mummy grandeur without being predictable like the bugaboo Wink

Also, it's just lovely and shiny and pretty and and and.... Grin

The bugaboo bee fits the Quinny dreami carrycot onto it with maxi cosy adapters, If i'd known that i would have saved a fortune not buying the chameleon.

I too opted for an ICandy but I got the cherry as I don't drive and will be using public transport a lot. It's chassis etc is small, light and manoeuvrable. I also loved the carry cot as it's so sturdy and nice that I'm planning to use it as a moses basket if we're at other people's houses. Plus it unclips so you can leave baby in it if he's sleeping when you get home.

I got mine on eBay in fab condition for about £200.

The Bugaboos were so expensive but also VERY low down. I'm 5ft 10" and DP is 6ft 4" so they really didn't appeal.

I love my Bugaboo Chamelon and I'm very upset that I will soon be selling it. (I'm expecting twins). A friend who has the Icandy is going to buy it from me as she dislikes the ICandy so much.

Advantages of Chamelon - contrary to other posts on here, I've found it very sturdy - it is great for going on the bus, and I've also used it lots on the tube (the bar below the seat is perfect for carrying it with). It's also very comfortable. The three sitting positions are great - DS can sit really upright which he loves. It's also lovely and cosy. The turning circle is very small. You can easily steer it with one hand. We used the bassinet on it's own as a moses basket.

If you are looking for an option of one you can use as one then extend for two have a look at the City Select Jogger - www.babyjogger.com/city_select_lp.aspx

Have you looked into the Concord range? Around the same price and weight but much less flimsy than the bugaboo.......although also becoming a bit of a celeb accessorie! x

we thought about icandy and bugaboo and went for the chameleon. we preferred the way the bugaboo worked - brake, handlebars etc. but the main reason was that the bugaboo has a lighter chassis - we live in a flat so i have to cart the thing up and down the stairs. the other thing that put us off icandy was that the pramhood over the carrycot made one hell of a clicky racket when we put it up and down. we thought that would wake a sleeping dc up. we haven't found the chamekeon carrycot to be at all flimsy and the handlebar is adjustable so should be fine if you or dh is tall.

coraltoes · 20/01/2011 17:15

I went for the peach over the bugaboo...found chameleons and bees waaaaay too low. Almost like baby was being pushed at ground level, and i'm not even tall. Also found the chameleon felt flimsy in comparison. The peach is incredibly easy to close, definitely the easiest of all buggies i tested. Sadly Bugaboos have far cooler colours

I looooove my bugaboo cameleon...

As I think has been said it has a really small turning circle, very easy to push one handed (great when walking the dog), great colours (could easily buy another fabric set for 2nd DC etc), and the best part?

Was in mothercare today and a lady behind me at the till said "I'm well jealous of your pram!" lol... I never thought I cared but I have to be honest, it felt nice ;p

Bugaboo bee is fantastic - so narrow and light and perfect for London living. Fits in tiny corner shop aisles and on packed buses. V v cosy for baby / toddler. I only used from 4 months tho and ds was sitting up. We both love it. He is v v attached to it. Almost his transitional object and he is nearly 2.

dycey · 21/01/2011 07:07

Weight of pram v important I think. And width. As for converting to 2 kids, I am planning to use sling for baby and then toddler board for older one. Our flat is titchy so can't afford space for double one tho. Ok enough from me!

Bugaboo cam is not low at all!!!!! I am 5ft 10, husband 6ft 1. We both find it perfect. The cot attachment is not low. Not is it flimsy - at all. I have used mine everyday for over 2 years, and it is still like new. Fab for babies, fab for toddlers. So easy to manoeuvre and steer, ESP one handed in supermarket with basket in other hand. Very steady on pavement. Great in snow and on rough ground. Has excellent resale price. But I'm not selling - can't wait to use for dc2.
I saw a mum with toddler and baby tring the iCandy as a double - it doesn't work for an older toddler which is useless.

MrTumblesCrackWhore · 08/03/2012 22:15

I must fit the SW London stereotype - I have a bugaboo chameleon and a double phil & teds since my second.

However, I've bought a buggy board for the bugaboo as I love it so much, and loathe the P&t with a passion (too stubborn and stingy to buy anything else). My bugaboo is third hand and has seen 5 children use it since its first owner- it is still going strong and I'm using it more for my second than tbe double buggy.

The only thing I would say is that it's not easy to take on public transport so I also have a Maclaren Triumph for the times I need to just push and go!

Bugaboo Donkey has a higher seat and goes to a double, very practical and can hold loads of crap in mono with side basket! I didn't like the 'look' in mono but it is so useful.
