Cots in hotels

Hi,

I know that if you borrow a cot from a friend or family, the advice is to buy a new mattress for it, but then how is it okay for your baby to sleep in a cot in a hotel? Do people take travel mattresses with them?! Sorry that this is such a dumb question - we'll be taking our baby away when he/she is 8 weeks and I'm starting to think about logistics!

Thank you!

Will you be using a moses basket or does your travel system have a carry cot? If so I'd be tempted to use one of these as 8 week olds are so little and often still like to feel "safer" in a smaller sleep environment. Plus that way you'll know for sure that the mattress is ok. If not, then maybe use a towel between the sheet and the mattress.

I have a travel cot which I got new but cheap off ebay. Most hotels only have travel cots anyway, so I'd rather use our own. That said, we co-sleep a lot of the time anyway, so it goes unused.

Thank you! I dont think we will have a separate carry cot and still considering whether to get a moses basket. I think I would feel happier using our own 'something' though, rather than what the hotel has to offer. Going to do some research into how much travel cots weigh - I can already see that our excess baggage costs are going to spiral out of control!

Thanks again!

We stayed in a hotel when DD was 10 weeks. The hotel offered a travel cot but I think we ended up wheeling her pram into our room and put her to sleep in that alongside the bed. After that we bought one of the pop-up "bubble" travel cots and used that. When she was older we used larger hotel travel cots - they double up as a handy playpen!

If it's for a trip overseas and you won't be using a duvet on the bed then a snuggle nest could be a cheap and light solution:

You can get some reasonably priced travel cots though- but they could be a faff for an aeroplane!
