To sweep or not to sweep??

I'm now 40+4 and I have a midwife appoitment tomorrow. I know I am going to be offered a membrane sweep. I'm really in two minds about it. Other than discomfort is there any downsides to having a sweep done?

Oh loisesh I am so sorry How awful. My midwife was very strongly advising me during the sweep appointment to phone the maternity ward if I felt any decrease/concern about babies movements. But it's difficult to know at this stage as they do move less so? Or mine seem too. It's quite a worrying time going over due date, even though a pregnancy can last until 42 weeks

Hiya, I had a sweep with my second. I was 40 +3. The midwife did a late afternoon home visit for my 40 wk check, as no space at the clinic. I wasnt fussed on the sweep to be honest, wanted it to happen when nature told me. But there was a student midwife with her, so I agreed.
It felt a bit uncomfortable, but not painfull. I had a bloody show straight away and cramping.I was apparently 2 cm dialated already ( cause she could get two fingers inside the cervix?)
She told me she had a good success rate, but I didnt really believe her. The midwife said I would probably feel some braxton hicks and crampin, but not to worry.As soon as she went, I felt really tired and crampy.
Anyway, I sent my boyfriend off to work for a night shift, and when he came home in the morning we went to hospital.
Within half an hour of arriving I had the baby!
I am about 8 weeks pregnant with my 3rd, and will definatley be having a sweep this time
