Hi all, i've been here on behalf of my wife several times before as she has suffered from hyperemesis in the first trimester, really badly. thankfully she is doing much better and the 12 week scan was great.
What i need to find out now is - is it normal at 12 weeks to be excessively tired? she is knackered at doing the very minimal things around the house! she is keeping most of her food and drink down although still being a bit sick but not to the point of dehydration.
Please can anyone help in stating this is normal? cheers all x

I think the HG in itself is very tiring. Also maybe if she's on meds for it they are making her feel drowsy (see my thread from today.)
Hope she feels better soon.

ah that's something I never thought about that! doh! she is on 7 tablets per day (2 of which can make you drowsy). thankyou 'pip' x hope you ok x

I was absolutely exhausted during my first trimester - constantly falling asleep and had no energy at all. I have no experience of hyperemesis but I guess that can't help with the energy levels.

The tiredness did start to ease about 14 weeks - so hopefully your wife will start to feel better soon.

Might be her haemoglobin levels too. Maybe get her blood tested and get some iron tablets.

Everyone's different but she might like to know that I was very tired up to Sunday (which was actually just over 11 weeks), had a massive (?) final burst of tiredness where I actually started to nod off whilst attempting to weed the garden on Sunday and woke up on Monday with miraculously renewed energy levels. Actually managed to stay up past 9pm last night! So perhaps this will pass, based on a wholly unscientific survey of one.

I hope it's normal because I'm feeling exactly the same. I thought it would get better at 12 weeks, but I'm now 13 and if anything it is worse! Last week I was sleeping for 12 hours each night, this week I am trying afternoon naps instead of long night-time sleeps. I've barely done any housework for a month and even showering tires me out! It sounds like your wife has a very supportive hubby though so hopefully she'll feel stronger and stronger over the next few weeks. (Oh, and again it's a very unscientific evidence, but pic'n'mix seems to give me an energy boost!!!!)

Of course, if you're worried, call the doc or midwife Smile

I was ridiculously tired around then and it's only really gone in the last week or so.

I literally did barely anything around the house for weeks, DP has been fantastic at picking everything up and not even moaned (to me anyway!). But I'm loving having the energy to do ANYTHING except work, sleep, work, sleep and staying up past 9.30 again and am making the most of it!

So I'd say keep doing what you're doing, you sound like you're being fab and it will get better :)
