Tummy Trouble

I posted a while ago, so this is a bit of an update. I have been suffering with diarrhea/loose stools since going on holiday at week 18. I am now at week 27 and it is much better but still ongoing. All the tests I have had have come back negative for bacteria etc. The doctor seems to think it could be some kind of post infectious IBS. I cant help but worry about it. Eating any kind of fruit and veg seems to make it worse which is obviously difficult when I am trying to eat heathily! Has anyone else had similar tummy troubles whilst pregnant? I know that most people have the opposite problem...

I do but I have those troubles permanantly :( All the healthy things I can't eat, such as wheat, fibre, most veg, certain fruits, dairy, spicy or greasy foods to name a few. So I theoretically should be a size 8 cos everything I eat goes through me within minutes...supposed to take 24 hours to digest food, mine doesn't hang round long enough. Green veg and bizzarly even lettuce are amongst the worse culprits.

Try cutting dairy see if that helps as that is one of the worst things for tummy troubles. I drink soya milk, it takes some getting used to, but you can get it sweetened to get used to it. And you can get soya yoghurts/deserts as well.

I have to use codeine atm to help not be so loose, but it doesn't work as well as my usual tablets but its better than nothing.

Some people say the yoghurt drinks such as yakult help, might be worth a try. I can't drink them, has the opposite effect, but you won't know until you try. The more you worry, the worse it gets. Stress is one of the triggers, that started mine. Another legacy of my ex husband :(

Hi there,

I have had IBS in the past so sympathise greatly with any kind of ongoing tummy trouble :-( I also had to go on to soya milk, avoid certain things etc. I did find with both pregnancies that my symptoms improved (though at the moment, some days I'm not so good). I can however reccomend a fantastic product- Optibac Probiotics for Bowel Calm. I always avoided Immodium in the past as I found it just made my tum gripy and painful and is full of chemicals. This bowel calm stuff is just 'good friendly bacteria' and can be used during pregnancy. I find one or two doses and my stomach is settled again. click here for more info www.optibacprobiotics.co.uk/shop/category.asp?catid=6

I have had over 10 years of IBS problems and tried all sorts of things, so in my experience this is worth it! I'm taking Optibac for your childs health (if you have a look at it, its also for use during pregnancy) and this gives me my good bacteria dose daily to keep me healthy (probiotic yogurts don't have enough in them to make a difference)

I also agree with tlise that certain foods may trigger it- my culprits also seemed to be high fibre veg- esp. lettuce and when I was really suffering I stuck to cooked and 'soluble fibre' foods like oats, cooked veg, more bland foods like potatos, rice, and avoid greasy and fatty foods. Alcohol was also a trigger for me.

good luck, hope it improves soon!

My daughter has found that since becoming pregnant sha can't eat anything containing cream, it gives her a really bad tummy :)

She usually has the opposite problem !

Thanks both, I have ordered some Optibac and will give that a go. Had another bad day today, basically if I eat anything other then VERY plain food an dairy I am ill, so frustrating not knowing what is wrong or how to fix it!
