I'd appreciate some help please ladies. I'm 22+5 today and all weekend I've been peeing extraordinary amounts. When I went to bed last night I was a wee bit uncomfortable down below but put it down to dryness due to the amount I'd been peeing. Today I haven't been to the loo as much but am still feeling slightly uncomfortable down there, there has also been a Bit of a nasty smell but no real discharge. I had a look in the mirror when I got home from work and it all looks a bit red and puffy too.
Not sure what to do, I've had thrush before when not PG but it's not really the same. Any ideas? And sorry again for the TMI!

Sounds like it might be thrush. Always good to see your GP if you get anything like this when pregnant. The Canesten tablets aren't suitable during pregnancy (at least, that's what the 'net says), and pharmacys don't like to give the pessarys to pregnant women without a prescription. Annoying given that most GP's will write you up for it super easily.

Thanks mrs m will try and get in to the Docs tomorrow.

thrush itches like fuck.

the pH of your vaginal secretions changes a lot during pregnancy - it may be just that irritating.

do you have some sudocreme to slap on in the meantime?

clarabella18 · 17/01/2011 19:39

Ooh I do I got some free in an emmas diary pack. Will go hunt it out.

Are you suppose to put sudocrem down there?

Your doctor will give you a pessary and some cream if it is thrush. Pessaries aren't to be used if you have a low lying placenta, apart from that they are fine. The creams are fine too. I have had to have a couple of treatments this pregnancy. My doctor said you would have to insert the pessary pretty far and roughly to do any damage anyway.

AtYourCervix · 17/01/2011 20:05

where else would you put sudocreme?
and a pessary needs to go right up the top behind your cervix to treat the whole vagina from the top down.

CrapBag · 17/01/2011 20:10

The pessary doesn't need to be inserted that far, I have used it and not inserted it too far and it has cleared mine up. Sudocreme is for things like nappy rash/acne etc. Not sure if it is recommended for thrush.

AtYourCervix · 17/01/2011 20:17

yes it does. otherwise you are just treating the lower half of your vagina and leaving the thrush growing at he top end - which is probably why you would need repeat treatment.

Thrush itches like fuck.

OP is sore - not itchy.

thrush also has a cottage cheesey discharge - also not mentioned by OP.

Sudocreme is slapped on the bottoms of millions of babies to treat sore bottoms and can be put on sore fanjos to soothe the soreness untill it can be looked at by a Dr/midwife who could then advise whether it is indeed thrush or soreness.

Mumbybumby · 17/01/2011 20:23

If it isn't thrush it might be bacterial vaginosis, which is an imbalance of the bacteria 'down there'.
It can cause itching, swelling, a smelly discharge (can be 'fishy') which is worse after sex and some pain when weeing or tummy pains.
I had this early in pregnancy and when I went to the doctor he told me off for leaving it a while as it had got much worse!
Was treated with penicillin and haven't had it since.
Hope you feel ok soon x

Cheers ladies. Just googled BV and that sounds like it could be it think I'll get myself to the Docs asap.

I get thrush often and it doesn't always itch. It's sometimes sore like you say, and red/bit swollen as you describe. Defo see the doc as whichever it is there is a treatment, so why suffer?

CrapBag · 18/01/2011 09:55

My last bout of thrush started by me being very sore down there, before the itching started and I don't get cottage cheese discharge so it isn't the same for everyone actually.

I also don't insert the pessary too far and it does clear mine up. I have only had it twice in this pregnancy and its mainly due to sweating at night, so I stopped wearing underwear and I also washed down there with soap which I usually avoid as that sets it off, which it did straight away the last time.

CrapBag · 18/01/2011 09:57

I also googled mine before and thought it sounded more like BV and it wasn't. Doc did swabs and they were fine.

clarabella18 · 21/01/2011 11:48

Gotresults of my swab back. Have group B strep :(
