Clothes too tight at 11 weeks - thicker abdomen high up and flabby belly!

Hi

Did anyone else get a protruding abdomen, quite high up under your boobs, by about 10 weeks? Although I don't have a baby bump yet as its too soon, I have definitely changed shape so that my upper abdomen curves out. This makes it impossible to do up lots of my shirts!

Also, I seem so have a big flabby belly! Ok......it was never really flat and toned to begin with, but its certainly flabbier than it was! Is this normal or could it be too many calories!!!?? I'm eating fairly sensibly and exercising 3 times a week so a little bemused!

Higher up under boobs got wider due calorie intake to keep my ms at bay!! But my stomach flattened out due to being sick during weeks 11 and 12 but week 13 out popped by bump! I do have a fat layer on top not much but enough to make me look a little more than I am!!

Suppose it depends on your calorie in take, exercise and also what your body shape was like before.

Ps my water retention earlier on added to my belly!!

AnnieDelores · 16/01/2011 20:51

Yes I think water retention is playing a part as I'm definitely slimmer in the mornings. Constipation and wind are a pain in the bum too - quite literally! Forcing myself to drink prune juice.

My mother is laughing because she was HUGE with me and I was her first. She thinks I'm following suit as we've both been a steady size 10 with the same body frame al our lives!

Ooo for the loo - I lived off satsumas - worked a treat :) There is a really funny thread on here about a lady who was REALLY struggling. Worth a read for a giggle.

I pinched my extra flab last night and I have put more on in the same area under boobs!! Was shocked! Im eating healthily now so not sure why Im gaining like i am. I walk for exercise (long walks each day with my very active pup!) and do some workouts but seems lke i need more but I find it really uncomfy as makes me need the loo! :-/

I bought a bump band to go over trousers so I dont have to give up my clothes yet but am too small for maternity gear. Works a treat :) Just looks like I have a vest top poking out of bottom of clothes. Ordered one of those button expanders too - now need to think about bras too! Costly this lark ey?!!

JimmyChoo17 · 17/01/2011 12:52

PS Im now 14 weeks 1 day god knows what size I'll be at 20 weeks! Let alone 40 weeks!!

AnnieDelores · 17/01/2011 17:45

Oooooooooooooh give me more details on the bump band and button expanders. Where did you get them from?

I bought some maternity skinny jeans and jeggings from top shop today. Quite clever they are - got a stretchy band across the front but normal at the back. Bliss.

Only two of my bras fit so I'm in the same boat as you.

Not been to loo for two days. Need dynamite, never mind satsumas!

Keep drinking liquids Annie. My memory of your stage is bloating due to dehydration - check your wee colour. That might also be why you're constipated...or have a chilli and brussel spouts like I did yesterday...effect was like a childs balloon being let go (sorry, bit graphic!)

dribbleface · 17/01/2011 18:28

I had a noticable bump at 8/10 weeks Blush. I used a hair band looped through eye of button on my jeans and then over button until i needed mat clothes, which incidently was 12 weeks!

AnnieDelores · 17/01/2011 19:00

Have been drinking like fish. On loo every hour at least. Water seems to just go straight through!

Is it safe to take sennakot! They work!

I put on weight round my waist by about 10 weeks (am 15 now) meaning none of my clothes fitted properly. I think it's a mix of fat from eating (spent most of this pg feeling so hungry), bloating and water retention, plus now a little bit of baby bump. Plus it depends what kind of clothes you normally wear - my old clothes seemed to show up the excess but other styles don't.

I bought trousers a size larger to tide me over, and the hairband round the button trick is also a good one. Maternity bump bands are great too for extending the life of non-maternity clothes (New Look sell a pack of 3).

AnnieDelores · 17/01/2011 20:39

Well I'm exactly 11 weeks today and still bloated. Thanks for the advice ladies - bump bands sound good. Don't your jeans keep falling down underneath though?

No to sennakot - on forbidden list as senna can bring on contractions. Sorry to hear you are still suffering. Baked beans?

JimmyChoo17 · 18/01/2011 20:33

AnnieDelores

Well the bump band - I do my zips or buttons up as high as can go on my trousers/skirt and then put band over the top. I bought a size bigger than I am so earlier on I tucked the band into top of trousers and couldnt notice it but now it sits happily on my mini bump and it will expand with me. To be honest my hips are now pretty capable of keeping trousers up! I also have done the headband trick but some of my trousers have like a flap with a button over which would be loose under my clothes and noticeable...however the bump band flattens it and gives me a smooth finish under my tops which come over the top of it.

Once I am at the stage where I have to leave all butons/zips undone it will be a godsend as i dont want to buy maternity gear for awhile to save pennies! It should keep me going for ages.

It was £6 from asos.com in white or black. The button expander can be bought from loads of places on line I'll have to check where I bought it from - even ebay had them! Cheaper too which I didnt realise before I ordered mine :(

Sennakot is safe to take in pregnancy (there have been no ill effects from any of their clinical studies)and it is not one of the laxatives which cause contractions but you should definitely talk to your GP before you start anything like that as all medications in pregnancy need to be assessed for risk/benefit. Maybe try Fybogel instead which is a totally natural drink to help constipation and definitely recommended in pregnancy!

AnnieDelores · 29/01/2011 14:55

Thanks Verity. Wil try the fybogel. Have upped my fruit intake and its helped slightly!
