I had a ploughman's lunch today and one of the cheeses that came with it was Shropshire Blue. I know it's naughty but I had a little nibble of the corner and, oh my word, it was delicious.

It's strange because I'm not usually one for blue cheese, but (probably because I know I'm not supposed to have it) it took a lot of willpower not to shovel it all into my gob. I've been thinking about it all afternoon (my mouth is actually watering right now) and the smoked applewood cheddar I bought as a consolation just isn't going to cut it.

I don't suppose the DoH did a u-turn on the safety of mould-ripened cheese in pregnancy while I was out?

You should've eaten the lot! You'd already eaten a little bit so you've already exposed yourself to the risk from that particular slice Grin

Personally I may (ahem!) have indulged in a piece of Stilton at Christmas but don't tell anyone!

Damn it, why didn't I think of it like that... I may go back for another ploughmans tomorrow. Smile

Your secret's safe with me! What harm can one wee slice do anyway?

isn't it only unpasteurised cheese that's bad??

...i did have all my babies prior to listeria even being invented and was encouraged to eat liver so I am prepared to be corrected!

It's any mould ripened or blue veined cheese you have to avoid, even if it's pasturised, I think. (Although I'm not sure so also prepared to be corrected!)

I suppose it could be worse - I could be being encouraged to eat liver [shudders]
