1st time pg and a bit overwhelmed!

Hello, I'm new to mumsnet. It sounds a bit silly, but I just sort of assumed it would take a few months to actually get pg... I'm 27, and dh and I decided after xmas we'd start trying. I only took a test the other day because dh said I kept saying "what's that smell?" (normally I don't notice smells much). 3 tests and a few days later and... crikey! Not that I'm complaining or anything, but I expected to have a bit longer to get my head round it. None of my friends have kids yet, so I haven't seen anyone I'm close to go through this.

Now I've got this crazy super sense of smell, my boobs have grown and I'm bursting to tell my mum and bf, but dh doesn't want me to. I know it could all go wrong yet but that doesn't stop my brain going "good grief - i'm growing a person!"

Anyone else in a similar, slightly-freaked-out-but-still-pleased frame of mind? Since I'm not allowed to tell anyone yet, it'd at least be nice to hear from other secretly pregnant MNers, or anyone who can guide/reassure me about this strange new pregnancy thing :)

Congratulations murkle. How exciting!! I'm due in the next week but it goes soooo fast!!

Have a look in antenatal group for a group chat of people who will be due the same time as you or set one up yourself. That way you will always have a group of people going through the same things as you at the same time. I've found it really helpful.

Go to talk and then 'more' section and then 'antenatal' think that's right.
Good luck :)

Congratulations!!

There are some really good antenatal threads on this site - if you go to the topic list and the 'antenatal clubs' section, and click on the one when you are due, you'll find loads of people who have also just found out they are pregnant!!

They are a great way of supporting each other through all stages of pregnancy and birth, and there will be a good mix of people who already have children so can give you advice, and terrified first-timers like you!!! Grin

Good luck!!

Congratulations! I'm 33 (although was 32 when I found out) and DH and I weren't even 'trying', we had sort of mooted the idea that we might do sometime this year, but probably later on (after sailing holiday, after Guide camp etc.), and then after literally one unintended 'careless' incident (!), I too noticed a few odd things (including insanely acute sense of smell) and tested and thought 'crikey, looks like it's happening now then!'.

Even though we hadn't really said 'yes we're definitely ready', I was instantly really happy about it, as was DH, but I can totally relate to your slightly freaked out state of mind. It's a really odd thing (but wonderful) and I think it's totally normal to sort of do a double take when you realise it's actually happening to you!

The great thing is that overall you seem to be happy about this, so it's a really exciting time.

I'm now 35 weeks and looking forward to meeting our little one.

Good luck with everyone, and get thee over to ante-natal clubs to share your journey with others due the same time as you.

Congratulations!

I was a bit taken aback too when it happened (am 18 weeks now) even though we'd been trying for a few months. It's such a huge thing to get your head round I think it naturally just takes a while! It's only in the last few weeks that I feel like I've sort of settled into it, if you know what I mean? And I still have moments when I feel a bit overwhelmed with everything, but generally I'm quite enjoying being pregnant (nausea notwithstanding).

saltnvinegarcrips is right though, it does go quick! Find it hard to believe I'm nearly at the halfway point (am also freaking out about all the major things I have to do between now and June, but that's another story!). So make sure you enjoy this bit, when it's still your secret, and it's all new and exciting.

Wishing you a happy and healthy pregnancy Smile

Thank you all for your reassuring and helpful replies. I've yet to calm down from the excitement of finding out but I'm definitely on the road towards thrilled to bits! As suggested, I'll pop over to the antenatal boards.

Good luck to all :)
