Hello, just had a birth centre assessment at the Whittingto Hospital. Midwife gave me a list of things to include in my hospital bag... including a sieve.... is this what I think it is for????

grim.

Flisspaps · 14/01/2011 10:57

Yes. Although I would have thought they'd have had their own sieves for this!

I mean, women bake cakes on the postnatal ward all the time...

DrMouse · 14/01/2011 10:58

oh dear - its just so horrible!

Why don't they provide one! I suppose it is unhygienic... hmmm

Oh lord, at the rate objects are suggested for hospital bags, I'll need a truck to carry mine by the time I get to have a DC2 ... I still remember obsessing about bendy straws - and how many to take? - to make drinking easier? Did anyone take one, use it and think thank GOD I remembered to pack that!

eaglewings · 14/01/2011 11:25

used the sieve out of the kitchen when my dd was born in water at home

Bought a new one at tesco the next day....

Carikube · 14/01/2011 11:25

I got a 99p one from Tesco for when I had DD1; we didn't need to use it but when I got transferred from the MLU to the hospital during the 2nd stage of labour I developed an unhealthy obsession with making sure that DH packed it seeing as how we had paid for it Blush

ChessyEvans · 14/01/2011 12:19

Does everybody get a list? Am only 26 weeks but lists are my favourite thing so would be pleased to get one. Would never have thought of sieve... ewww... but I suppose it makes sense. I'm sure by the time it gets to that stage I'll be past Blushing at anything!

Awww, a little bonus brown baby for you. Lovely. It's got your eyes. Grin

We were told at the NHS antenatal class to bring a sieve to hospital if we wanted to use the birthing pool... and also that partners would have to do the sieving (at which my poor other half looked a little Shock)!

MummyAbroad · 14/01/2011 17:02

Just was lurking and now cant stop laughing at all your comments especially Japers Grin Grin Grin

OMG!!! That had just put me tight off a water birth!!!!!

Can't see hubby fishing ANYTHING out with a sieve for me. Ewwww!!!! Grin

Haaa haaaa haaaaaa. Nice one jasper.

A sieve is of no use use though if one's bowels are a little loose on the day. Bloody good luck to the sievers out there.
