'MOBILE' Epidural Advice??

Hi,

I am wondering whether Kingston offer a mobile(low dose) epidural?

Also, any general advice from anyone who's had one. Were you still able to push adequately? Did you find that you were still in a lot of pain? Would you opt for one again? etc...

Ta!

I had one and couldn't rate them enough. Totally wonderful. Mine worked more on one side than the other but that can happen with a mobile one or a full one. I just had to lean to one side slightly. However when time to push came it was painful. The midwife told me not to top it up when I was 9-10cm dilated. So, when it came time to push I must admit I was in a lot of pain, but it would have been a lot less than without it, and I pushed the baby out in 10 minutes, and could feel everything, which was a pretty amazing experience. And after birth and breast feeding, I was able to walk to the bathroom and have a bath. It felt like a shamefully designer birth. Just enough pain to make it feel real, but not too much.

Had a full epidural the first time because a mobile one wasn't offered then. Obviously, i was happy enough with that to clamour for another when the pain got too much the second time.

This is a good thread. Did anyone have a mobile epidural that allowed you to give water birth or sit in water pre-delivery?

I had an agonising induced labour with DC1 and eventually had full epidural. I couldn't feel a thing and didn't know where to push. It was topped up just at the end because DC1 ended up being delivered with forceps and I still could not walk 12 hours after delivery.

With DC2 I was induced again, but had a low dose "mobile" epidural and the difference was amazing. I had to stay on the bed because I was being monitored, but I could feel everything abd there was slmost no pain. I could move my legs and change position as much as was allowed. I could easily feel each contraction as a tightening and I knew where to push. The delivery was such a wonderful experience and I was up and about in a couple of hours.

I'd really recommend the mobile one. It made the entire experience actually pleasurable!

you won't be able to have an epidural if you are having a water birth - technically difficult ie the dressing holding catheter may not stick , epidural tube may fall out, sterility issues. you will also need more monitoring like BP monitoring- all of which is more difficult if you're in the water.
