Travel to Costa Rica at 16 weeks

Just wondered if people think I'm mad for doing a work trip to Costa Rica at 16 weeks pregnant. I've made sure I've had all the right jabs and it's only for five days. We're staying in Hilton-type hotels, not top end, but perfectly fine. My DP has been stressing about it incase I get sick or something, so would love to know if others would think this kind of trip a risk. Surely women in Costa Rica have babies?

At 16 weeks I'm sure you'll be fine! You will probably find the flight the most uncomfortable part- make sure you do your on board exercises, drink plently of water- all the usual stuff really. With regards to getting sick etc.., just make sure you have adequate travel/health insurance that covers your stage of pregnancy and destination.

Sounds lovely though Smile

Costa Rica is an amazing place and is very well set-up, clean etc, so I think you'll be fine.

Why oh why are you only going for five days though??? Can you not add some time on before or after to travel a little? Sooooooooooooooooo much to see!

Thanks Leilababyno1 - you're right at 16 weeks, the chances (touch wood) of going into labour or anything like that are pretty slim.
Icouldoitbetter - i know, i know, i know. It's unbearable really flying all the way across world only for 5 days. I'm quite embarrassed about how very ungreen and unsustainable the trip is. The problem is it's a work thing that has been organized out of my hands and I can't extend. Damn. And nice to hear that it's clean and well set-up. Very reassuring.

When I travelled aruond Costa Rica many years ago, I remember reading in the guide book that they have the best healthcare system in Latin America and it is is free I think. Also have very good private healthcare system so you should be in good hands if you need any assistance.

It is beautiful (apart from San Jose which we loving referred to as the arsehole of Costa Rica) and full of amazing wildlife, shame you're not going for longer!
