Please share my pain! I'm 37+6 due to finish work on Friday in the city but the tube is literally wearing me out. Please tell me i'm not a wuss and you're finding it hard too? Even when some kind person does offer a seat just the stairs/walk to work/home makes me exhausted!

No, you're not a wuss Lula. I did the same in the loooong hot summer of 06 and it was pure hell.

Soon be over though!

Have you got one of the TFL 'Baby on Board' badges. Might be a bit naff but certainly helps when needing a seat and makes people a bit more tolerant when waddling slowly down the platform! Only a few more days to go though - enjoy the break

I found it hard enough walking the half mile from the car park to work on flat ground so you are definitely not a wuss IMO!

ellesbelles79 · 11/01/2011 11:36

No you are not a wuss - Im 34 weeks and hating the commute so much! Luckily I was able to get work to okay me working from home a few days a week so things are a bit easier for me now.

A few weeks ago I actually burst into tears on the central line! There were major delays and I had stood up for about an hour in a really cramped space and was so squashed. It was baking hot and i just starting crying my eyes out.....a lady saw me having my meltdown & gave me her seat.

Only 9 days of work left to go...hurrah!

Hang on in there...or can you maybe work from home or change your hours so you arent travelling in the rush hour? That might be the answer xx

mini hijack - sorry OP

I contributed to your other thread about your partner

How are things now?

Lulabel27 · 11/01/2011 11:52

NP Gingerbread! Ellesbelles i've just PM'd you! Sounds like there's a few of us want to know how you are doing!

As for the tube I will just have to suck it up - luckily I've just negotiated to work at home tomorrow (yipeee) and will finish at 5pm today. So only Thursday and Friday :-)

PS: I never used the Baby on Board badge but i'm quite obviously pregnant, I look like I'm smuggling a bowling ball up my jumper and my coat doesn't do up around it! If that doesn't get peoples sympathy I'm not sure the badge will :(

Lulabel, I'm in exactly the same situation as you, also finishing work on Friday!

You're not being pathetic at all - I've switched to the bus as it's so much less stress and shoving. Also, we get the same driver every day so he knows not to ram forward until I'm steady on my feet.

Is the bus an option for you? Also, just ask for a seat. I've given up on being proud about it, I need the seat dammit.

yousankmybattleship · 11/01/2011 13:12

I had twins and commuted on the tube to 30 weeks. Luckily I nearly always got a seat, but it was exhausting. Make sure you've always got plenty of water with you - I also used to have at least three or four flapjacks stashed in my pockeets to keep me going.

Cyclebump · 11/01/2011 13:30

I'm 28 weeks and I'm exhausted by it. I still don't have the balls to ask for a seat and rarely get offered one. The walking between platforms is knackering too.

I'm due 4 April but going on annual leave then ML on 7 March because I can't face doing it past then!

sh77 · 11/01/2011 13:55

I am 30 weeks and getting v tired. Some days I don't have the balls to ask for a seat and feel a little silly wearing my baby on board badge. If I am particularly tired, I will wait one stop and then ask the person if they need the priority seat. I am yet to be offered a seat (though a lovely lady apologised and said I should have nudged her as she didn't notice me (she was reading)). Some people do look at my tummy and look down.

I go on leave in 2 weeks!

natmay27 · 11/01/2011 14:31

Where can you get the baby on board badges? I need one!! Due in May but tube and busy trains are not fun when you have low blood pressure! :)

GingerbreadGiraffe · 11/01/2011 14:57

You all may know already but some trains offer an upgrade to 1st class when pregnant (need send copy of MatB1). You may have to have a season ticket.

I did this with SW trains and it was fab. meant I always got a seat.

I loved the dirty looks the other 1st classers used to give me as I staggered onto the train Grin

ellesbelles79 · 11/01/2011 15:48

Hi Lulabel and Ginger - all is going well for me thanks. well, its been a tough few weeks on my own but Im glad not to have all the stress to be honest with you.

OH is staying with his sister still but we have been in contact. He wants to be at the birth and I will of course allow him to be there....just dont want him to be living with me right now. Maybe things will change one day if he can get himself sorted but now Im just planning to be on my own really.

Lulabel I will pm you back shortly!

thanks to you both for asking about me...hope you are both doing okay. xxx

jasmine51 · 11/01/2011 16:59

natmay any TFL ticket office should have the badges. For someone like me who invites confused stares of 'is she pg or just fat...better not take a risk' my badge has actually helped alot. Also excuses me when I barge through everyone else and beat some oik to the last seat!

natmay27 · 11/01/2011 17:15

thanks jasmine...il get one on the way home!! :)

L2016 · 11/01/2011 19:39

I'm 32 weeks and also finding the tube really really hard (have to commute 1 hour each way). I absolutely hate it and find the journeys really exhausting. Only 2 and a half weeks to go until mat leave, and I can't wait!

cocoachannel · 11/01/2011 20:23

I'm 34 weeks and it's tough. I always ask for a seat though and not had any rude comments or dodgy looks so far! Still knackering though. I am sure the walk between the Victoria and Central lines gets longer everyday...!

SauvignonBlanche · 11/01/2011 20:25

I did, make sure your coat is open and you rub bump often, still won't always get a seat though.
