i am 4days over my due date and in alot of pain as i have a weak pelvis, i had a show 48hrs ago but nothing since. i have a son who is turning 1yr old on sunday and i really want to have had baby by then so i can be home for his birthday. im at my wits end and really would be greatful for some advice on what to try to start labour.

my husband refuses to have sex as he is convinced it'll hurt the baby (even though we all know that no matter what size his togger is that aint gonna happen!)
im not keen on the caster oil theory so any other suggestions are welcome!

thanx

I always go for a good stiff walk and try to incorporate a couple of steep hills. It does the trick for me.

Good luck stillsmiling.

How does the castor oil work and how much do you need to take? Just in case...

Mum2OneAndBump · 11/10/2005 15:03

Tex - I would only take it if you really do get that desperate, (i was THAT desperate) i sent dp to the chemist to say he was getting it for his gran lol i was due to be induced at 9am the next morning so this was my last resort, i toke one big spoonful at 1pm and started doing housework hoovering etc, nothing was happening by 7pm so a bit later i made myself take another spoonful and then i went to bed, i woke up at 4am in labour and ds was born at 8.30pm that evening! I must say it taste discusting but i put it in my mouth and very quickly drank a drink at the same time to wash it down and it worked. hope this helps.

I was in this situation last week. Castor oil was a last resort for me too but I took it with a load of orange juice and couldn't taste it. Went into labour six hours later. Having said that, I took it in conjunction with hot sex, a hot curry and raspberry leaf tea though so who knows which worked? You ask how castor oil works - well it's basically for constipation so it irritates the bowels, which irritaes the uterus.

does castor oil work! oh YESSSSSSSSSS.
i took it at 7pm ish, downed it over the sink mixed with fresh oj. Did the whole bottle. Yes I had a few poos, but was pleased of that. Then at about 10pm ish i had my first mild contraction and 2.37am the next morning I had my baby girl, no tears, easy, lovely birth.

I WAS desperate, 10 days late with Xmas getting closer & closer. I was scared but I would do it again. 4 of my close friends had also done the castor oil. Someone I know - all 3 of her kids are castor oil kids!

Thre was no way I was being induced and had tried everything else:
rampant sex !
long walks
fresh pineapple
hot baths
reflexology
raspberry leaf tea
clary sahe oil
yoga
vindaloo sauce over my vegetable korma!
stern talks to the bump!

castor oil worked a treat.

Good luck
