How successfully were you able to predict? Once you were aware of your ovulation time did it take long time to actually concieve?

Hi sunnyside, I used clearblue ovulation tests until I conceived. We really wanted to conceive as quickly as poss once we'd made the decision to have a family, and I just found it really helpful to know when was the best time to "go for it!" By the 4th month I had a pretty good idea of the day I would ovulate, and we started having sex the day before, and went at it like rabbits for 48 hours - I conceived that month.

I used Persona. Got pregnant the first month I used it.

I should add that I have a fairly irregular cycle. If you have a regular cycle it prob won't take you 4 months to work out when you're gonna ovulate!

I used Persona, and like expatinscotland I got pregnant the first month of trying. I know that everyone on mumsnet goes on about how unreliable the persona is as a contraceptive but I used it for more than a year beforehand to NOT get pregnant and was just really careful about not having unprotected sex when it gave the red light. I found it really reassuring to get the little 'o' for ovulation once a month and I had a fairly good idea when would be hte best time for conception from that. Downside is the expense of the sticks, but I expect the ovulation ones aren't much cheaper! Good luck!

used persona successfully twice - couldn't quite get to grips with the ovo sticks. Fingers crossed that persona works 3rd time !

Thanks everyone its really useful to have an idea what people think works. What do you do then with the persona? Soz if I'm behind the times!

I used it for three months before we started trying (so the machine could get my cycle sussed out). It took us from March to October to conceive.

You basically programme the machine to tell it your period has started. On day 6 it asks you to wee on a stick and it analyses the urine, then the same from about days 9-15. The sticks cost about £10 a box, so that's £10 a month.

In my experience, the shops that stock the sticks sometimes run out, and that's really annoying. However, there's a helpline number in the manual, and the people on the phone are unbelievably helpful - they will track down your nearest stock of sticks and even phone the chemist to check.

The machine shows an O sign when it detects you are going to ovulate within the next few hours. It also gives a green light when it's safe to have sex and a red one when you are fertile.
