Anyone with a recent experience at St Georges?

My 1st choice hospital, Kingston, is full and so it looks like I have no choice but to go to St Georges. I have had most of my antenatal apps there already and they have been great, but it just doesn't feel right. Help, I've spent ages crying today already :(

My baby is due is six weeks and I'm having her at St.George's. The care so far has been great. A friend of mine had a C-section there last week and said her care was fantastic.

Unfortunately I also had an ectopic at the beginning of last year. My care was second to none there.

A lot of investment has been made to antenatal care there over the past few years following a scathing report on them a few years back, so lots of improvement including the Carmen Suite.

Don't forget also that the fact thar should you need it (hopefully not), there are specialists onsite and experts in fetal medicine.

I can only second what cocoa has said, I had my first baby here and I am due to have twins at St Gs within the next 6-7 weeks and they have been fantastic.

This is DC1 so no experience to date. I do hear with most maternity wards lots of women feel that they are left alone a bit, whilst MWs are bustvdelivering other babies! I imagine that this is the same at St.G's, although the fact that it is a teaching hospital may mean that there are student MWs around who can help with things in postnatal.

Magic8ball. I may see you there- due 23/02, so strictly speaking also 6-7 weeks, I just like to focus on sooner rather than later!!

I just moved from Stoke Newington to Wimbledon and decided on St George. I am high risk and my North London doctor and I did some thinking about what was best. We choose St George due to its strength to deal with any (and likely) complications.

I had a glitch 3 days ago (pain and bleeding) and was impressed how quickly they got me sorted with a scan. At the same time - they immediately sent me up for blood and registered me for my scan and antenatal (within an hour) on the back of my self-referral. They are taking it all really seriously, which I found impressive.

We will see, but so far so good.

That said, I missed Homerton's cleanliness and the staff were relatively friendlier. Can't have everything.

I begged to be booked in at SGH (out of catchment). Was so glad because dd was premature (born 10 weeks early) and the care was outstanding. The neonatal unit is fantastic. My antenatal care (even before PROM) was very good. Postnatal care wasn't as good but my expectations were low because I remembered my experience with ds (born at a highly rated teaching hospital in London)where the antenatal care was brilliant and the postnatal care crap.
If I was ever to contemplate another dc I'd want SGH again.

I stayed on the delivery suite until discharged as I was in HDU with DD so I can't comment on the care upstairs on the labour ward. But despite the fact that all the midwives were obviously very busy delivering babies they still made time for me especially when it came to BFing.

Cocoa I am seriously focusing on the sooner!

Swanny as I am having twins I wont be able to use the carmen suite :( I am in Surrey and have moved ALL my care to St Gs (for other medical issues other than baby related) and the care has been fantastic across the board.

Thanks Ladies! I'm feeling so much better about staying with St Georges now. Although I'm classified as low risk, as was my Mum when she had me, but due to her small frame (like I have) she had to have an emergency C-Section.

Maybe Kingston wasn't the right choice in the first place and to be fair, I probably would have felt a little guilty leaving St G's as they have been so good.

The Midwife, Nana, is so sweet and full of knowledge!

I had a c section on Christmas Eve, it was all very well managed. Spent Xmas day and boxing day on post natal ward and the staff went out of their way to make it a cheery experience - I was even given a present for DS by the ward sister.

Of course, the ward was hot and noisy, but I think they all are. I'm sure you'll be fine!

Really glad to hear you're feeling better Swanny. When are you due btw?

I'm in Balham, so will give you a shout next time I'm heading down Wimbledon way, which is quite a lot for shopping and/or the cinema.
