Exhausted in Early Pregnancy. When does this pass?

About lunchtime I feel like I really need to lie down I seriously considered a 10 min nap in the work loo today, but was so worried I'd fall off I managed to stay awake and struggle back to my desk Blush.

I'm 6 weeks pregnant now. Does this last for much longer and is there anything I can do to up my energy levels?

Soon, I promise. I did nothing but sleep and wrap myself up in a hundred jumpers because I was so tired and cold early on. It does pass!

I spent many a happy hour lying on the floor of the (many, before anyone shouts at me!) disabled toilet at work. Set my alarm for 15 minutes and it was great. There was just no way I could have managed without it.

Now at 9 weeks I'm going through it again but not back at work yet after illness. This time I will have my car outside to nap in.

Seriously, a short nap will make you feel so much better. If you possibly can find a quiet corner during your lunch break I really recommend it.

About 12 - 13 weeks for me. All of a sudden that bone crushing tiredness lifts and you'll be like a whirlwind, trust me!

KnittingRocks · 06/01/2011 21:54

My eldest is 2 1/2 and I'm still waiting for it to go Wink Grin.

Oneof4 · 07/01/2011 06:10

Completely agree that the only way through is to give in to it. I too slept for 15 mins in the loo for the first 14 weeks or so - I just couldn't function without it.

Take a woolly jumper to put under your head!

GoldFrakkincenseAndMyrrh · 07/01/2011 06:31

I got to 16 weeks or so before it lifted. I'm still tired but no longer needing naps in the middle of the day!

superchick · 07/01/2011 07:19

I'm 14 weeks and still trying to find somewhere to nap after lunch in the office. Can't sleep in the loos but we have a couple of sofas that I curl up on for 10 mins most days. Can't wait for this fog of permanent tiredness to lift.

cookingfat · 07/01/2011 14:09

Was exhausted until end of first trimester, it did go, I promise. However, now at week 36 it's back with a vengeance!

dycey · 07/01/2011 14:38

It took me til I could feel baby move at 17 weeks. Going through it again now a it's so knackering. And the non stop car sick thing ugh. But it did go - for a few months before the next type of tiredness starts!

Cyclebump · 07/01/2011 15:29

You have my sympathy, I felt so tire for the first twelve weeks I wanted to cry. I suddenly perked beginning week ten and have gained more and more energy since. Am now 27 weeks and feeling my pre pregnancy self energy wise. Hang in there!

speffles · 07/01/2011 15:51

I'm nearly at 11 weeks and it hasn't let up yet. I hadn't thought of sleeping in the loo - such a good idea!

Cycle - I'm so jealous right now Wink.

Helzapoppin · 07/01/2011 16:09

You all have my sympathies. I felt fantastic and full of energy for the whole of my first pregnancy. This time round, I am nine weeks and have been utterly exhausted (and sick-feeling, and moody!) for the duration.I've been off work for 3 weeks and have to put a DVD on for my toddler to watch after lunch while I sleep and then I go to bed at 8.30. I.m back to work and at a conference next week- really dreading it- I know that I'll fall asleep during an important seminar. At least I'm staying at the hotal so can nip back to my room for a sleep during the keynotes!

highheelsandequations · 07/01/2011 16:46

I'm 13+2 and still too exhausted to function, hoping it gets better soon!

violetwellies · 08/01/2011 10:06

The absolute exhaustion and nausea lifted at 14 weeks, but Im still bloody tired, at twenty weeks I had twelve hours sleep last night, had to leave Sainsbury's last week due to feeling sick every time I looked at the food - everyone said Oooh you'll have loads of energry in the second trimester - LIES :(
Knackered, but at least Im no longer sleeping during the day. Which incidentally made me feel sicker.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 08/01/2011 10:20

The 'fall asleep anywhere' feeling passed at around 8-9 weeks, but I needed an afternoon nap until I was about 16 weeks. Fortunately my toddler was still napping at that stage so it was easy for me to get some sleep.

I'm 29 weeks now and starting to get tired again. I feel energetic, but things are wearing me out and a busy morning will mean needing to not do much in the afternoon.

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 08/01/2011 10:23

About 14 weeks with ds1 but a bit longer with ds2, nearer 16 weeks iirc.

It seems like forever, but will soon pass.

xx

Not everyone is fortunate enough to have the tiredness lift in the second trimester, although I hope yours does!
For the first 14 weeks or so I had almost drunken tiredness, and was passing out rather than sleeping. But the tiredness did lift 'somewhat' after that and I was able to go for long walks again and adjust my body to the growing bump. And no matter what anyone says, just the one coffee each morning to give me a wee energy boost hasn't done any harm.

Then just as I was coming to terms with having a little more energy I hit a wall at about 30 weeks and all of a sudden felt sore, tired and heavy. Wouldn't change it for the world though as it means baby is getting nice and big and all is (hopefully) as it should be in there! Everyone's pregnancies differ so much, you just need to listen to your own body and take things day by day. Best of luck!

About 18 weeks for me. Then it started again a couple of weeks ago (am now 32+2)
