Hello everyone,

Feeling very new to this (will be around 7 weeks on Saturday) and really wanting to tell everyone but waiting until our 12 week scan. I have my first midwife appointment a week on Wednesday.

I'm feeling very pregnant one minute (very sore boobs! very tired, sickly and very bloated from lunchtime onwards) and not the next - wondering if it's really true!

I'm having to wear baggy clothes to work as I'm usually slim with not much up top - but my boobs have obviously grown (hubby is in shock!) and my stomach sticks out after lunch - not 'bump' like, just fat! So I don't know if my wardrobe will cover it for the next 5 weeks!

One thing that does niggle me is that I had very mild pinkish discharge on the day my period was due with two very tiny clots. It only lasted around 12 - 24 hours and my doctor says it's quite normal and not to worry but I just wondered if the clots are normal?

Any help/advice will be much appreciated!

(It seems a little more real now I've written it down!)

Thanks x

Hi there, welcome!

Firstly, congratulations on your news and I think you're sensible to wait until 12 weeks, I did and am pleased I did.

I think what you're referring to is spotting and from what I have read it is v v common, especially so around the date when you would normally have a period. Not to be too yucky but it might just be that you were looking more closely than usual if you were concerned? If your doc has said nothing to worry about then I'd take that advice. I had an early miscarriage (earlier than you are now) and def knew about it - plus straight away afterwards my boobs shrank, tummy went, everything. So you'd know if it was something like that.

I'm with you on the weight gain as well, I was amazed at how much weight I put on in the first 8-10 weeks when technically I shouldn't have been showing! It's levelled out now though (I'm 25 weeks) and I just have a bump. Btw I was in maternity trousers for work before I told anyone, there's no way for anyone to tell so you could always get some mat clothes if you'd feel more comfortable.

Good luck for the rest of the pregnancy Smile

I want to just add ditto to *chessyevans"! Congratulations
I have had a few early mcs and as she says, you will know about it. Spotting is always worrying but if you have been checked and it has not developed then you can rest easy. If you are really unsure you could always have a private scan? Not cheap but worth your sanity in the 12 week wait.
re weight gain - ha ha, yes - I think I gained my full quota in the first 12 weeks. i am hoping it will level out otherwise I will be a walrus by the end...but now the ms has passed it is a bit easier to consider healthy eating and exercise.
re telling people - I waited until the stage at which I felt that if I lost the baby, people around me would know something was up anyway. So told family and close friends around 8 weeks, work 12-14 wks
re bloating - make sure you are drinking enough, bloating can be a sign of dehydration..keep watching the wee.

Well done, relax, enjoy and start 'enjoying' those weird aches pains and sick feelings!

Hi, the spotting around your period is incredibly common. I had what felt like a very light period for about 4 days. Fooled me into not testing until I was six weeks pg!

It's usually an implantation bleed. It's caused by the embryo burying into the lining of your womb. As such, it's a good sign because it shows it is hanging on tight.

Up to you whether you tell anyone before 12 weeks. I did cos I had a m/c before, hadn't told anyone I was pg then ended with everyone knowing about the m/c cos I needed time off work. Would have rather shared the good news before that bad iykwim. Also, work colleagues were guessing due to my grey pallor and nausea and I can't outright lie - I blush too much! You could tell them you have a tummy bug though. That's what I thought was wrong with me from weeks 4-6!

Your womb will be tucked inside your pelvis until 12-14 weeks (hence why you need a full bladder for the 12 week scan, to push it up). So you are just bloated which is very normal and unlikely to get worse between now and then - unless it's twins!

Congratulations
