Im 36 weeks and today I had my midwife appt. She said my stomach muscles are so tight she can't feel where the babies head is and thinks baby is breech.
However I am sure I can feel her feet kicking in my ribs but now I'm not sure. Going for scan to confirm tomorrow. She said they wud try tirning baby but isn't this more painful than child birth???? Im so scared. Pls advise

They turn lots of babies roxy.

It migt feel funny and uncomfortable but compared to having a breeech birth or c-section, it will be fine.

In the mean time, if you have time and aren't too tired, get down on all fours and spend as much time between now and the scan, on all fours and hope the baby turns itself if there's room (if it's breech). Also, lie on your left side from now until the birth - even if it's not breech.

Midwives can be wrong - mine told me DS would be at least 8.5 lbs and he was 6.12lbs. That is some way off!

I know you will, but try not to worry.

don't be scared ! the turning might well be uncomfortable but not more painful than the birth.. you can have a muscle relaxant first and if it is very painful, you can ask them to stop of course

it;s a good thing you're having the scan, at least you'll know for sure

has there been a problem feeling the position of the baby before now?

Hi RoxyLady,

I'm in the same boat- 36+3 today and just saw midwife to see if baby has turned (she thought it was breech a week ago) she can't be sure so now have a scan as well tomorrow to confirm.

I'm also worried about potential ECV to turn the baby but like vintageteacups says, it can't be as bad as a birth or C-section and the pain afterwards- I'd do almost anything not to have a c-section as I so want a normal birth.

Is this your first? Good luck tomorrow, hopefully yours isn't breech and you will have nothing to worry about

You don't have to consent to ECV if you don't want to or a section either. Some people manage a vb with a breech baby with the right support and expertise.

read my post on the transverse thread for a tip for turning baby. worth a try :)

Chynah- yeah I have read a bit about breech vb- a good website, Roxylady is:

www.spinningbabies.com/baby-positions/breech-bottoms-up

it talks about how to try and turn a breech baby. I also found a link somewhere to watch a breech birth! My main reservation about having a breech vb is that this website says not all hospitals have the expertise to deal with breech births (hence trying to persuade mums to have CS) and any interference during the birth can lead to more complications- rather than letting the baby make its own way out. I'm not sure I'd trust the hospital to do the right thing!

oh also wanted to say- really want to start exercises but MW says to wait till scan to confirm baby definitely breech. Roxylady have you tried any exercises yet?
