Not allowed to give birth in a midwife lead unit -advice needed

I have been informed that I am not allowed to give birth in a midwife led unit for my third child as first child, I had a normal birth then retained placenta and second child I had very normal birth but then high blood pressure for about a week after giving birth.

My midwife has submitted a special circumstances form for me so I am hoping they will decide answer is yes. If it isn't, i would like to pursue it further for various reasons so wondered if anyone else had bee in a similar situation and had any advice. Thanks

Have you asked them to give you a reason why? E.g what they think will happen?

High BP - doesnt mean will happen again nor necssarily any harm to baby. Could just be a bit of high bp. How high was bp?

Sorry trying to type and feed. Not very coherent!

I cant see anything there that would stop you. Where abouts are you?

I had a bit of high bp with third but no protein, baby fine etc so was no reason not to.

How quick were other labours?

Both my other labours were a couple of hours from first proper contraction to birth. It just feels like I am being messed around. Am hoping the answer comes back as a yes but I have just been told to be patient and wait. I feel like i need an opportunity to fight my corner and ot reply on a midwife I have met twice to be able to do it for me. BP was very high but they let me out of hospital within 2 days of birth and did not actually start getting me pills for it till day 5. Then it was up and down like a yoyo as they could not decide how many pills I needed. i eventually stopped taking them and it was back to normal by 2 weeks after birth. It used to stress me alot just waiting for the daily measurement of it and being threatened with being taken into hospital if it did not improve.

Yes...they did that to me in my last pregnancy (but during pregnancy) - threatened so much with regular readings and threat of hospital my BP was strangely raised Hmm

There is no reason at the moment for you to not have a midwife led birth. You do not have high BP at the moment. I dont think there is increased risk of RP again? Ask for natural third stage (no injection) so cervix closes more slowly.

I would be calm and talk about your MLU birth to the midwives. Presume you are - to them at least. Tempted to say threaten with home birth then they may change their minds. Ask them to explain exactly why you cannot have MLU birth - give exact reasons as to why it would harm you and baby.

Last time I was there I was advised by the midwife that it they were unhappy about letting me give birth to say I would have a home birth. I think they are short staffed so prefer these not to happen. I have said as a last resort I would have one but I also said that I would prefer not to. Finger crossed.

I agree and the white collar syndrome is quite well known with regards to high BP when you get dragged in (am at similar stage; had high BP at end of first pregnancy; they bullied me and induced me; am in denial so far about next labour/birth, but still have 15 weeks to think about it!!!)

Its with a huge amount of relief that I found out this week that I am allowed to give birth at the midwife unit, provided there are no other complications. I feel so much more positive about the whole experience. At least I am being given a chance to do it my way, if fate decides that its not to be, well I tried and I am more determined than ever to demand my own way of doing things even if I am forced to go to a consultant unit.

thank you all, for all your advice and comments, I am very grateful.xx
