Swine flu vaccine adverse effects

I am 10 weeks pregnant and I had a swine flu vaccine last Friday, as I was terrified by the stories in the press discussing the potential risks of swine flu in pregnant women. However, my body did not react very well to the vaccine. For two days I was vomiting, had high temperature and felt dizzy. Now I am feeling better again, but now I am scared for my baby - if the vaccine affected me, could it also have adverse effects on my baby? The opinions I have found on the Internet are not encouraging.

The trouble is there is no way of telling if what you experienced was from the vaccine or a bug you picked up along the way (which is more likely). I shouldnt worry there are no recorded adverse effect for babies.

I've had the jab but didn't experience any side effects. I wasn't told of any side effects like you describe. Could you have had another bug?

I would think you're baby is fine but I'd ring the midwife for reassurance.

Most the time your body already already has the start of the bug and only get noticable after the jab. I knew I was coming down with a cold but still got the jab anyway and it has been no worse then a normal cold. I read that its not a live virus they give you so it can't cause you to get flu.

I work in healthcare and am constantly bombarded with stories year after year about how people have had the flu jab and gotten ill after it. What people need to remember is that you get the flu jab at the time of year when various bugs are more prevalent, so are more likely to have already picked up a bug before getting the jab and its just coincidence that you got ill after.

The likelihood off becoming ill from the flu jab is extremely low, they give it to people who have already very ill with no affects.

Your baby will be fine. By all means ring the midwife but bear in mind that the flu jab is one of the very few vaccinations approved for use in pregnant women so is safe!
