Anyone else had a 20 week scan and think they know the sex from what they have seen on screen - without it being confirmed by the sonographer? And were you right?!

couldn't you ask the sonographer? imho, it's hard to see smth definite on the scan if you're not a specialist....

flowerfairy · 26/12/2010 22:58

I take it bumpers you didn't want to know and are just guessing? I didn't want to know with this pg or with ds. Though with ds the sonographer obviously saw it was a boy and then kept saying all the way through"Are you sure you don't want to know what it is?" Which in hindsight was boys are obviously more distinctive but never actually nticed anything on screen myself. I am convinved this is a boy too. But baby had its legs crossed and facing forward at 20 week scan. Didn't really notice anything on scan. Will just wait and see!

I did, our hospital won't reveal the sex, so I did a bit of research and kept my eyes glued to the screen! Apparently in terms of lumps and bumps, boys and girls look very similar in utero. I spotted that DD was a girl and I was correct!

FrustratedHippy · 26/12/2010 23:16

gawd yes!!! I had a lot of boys and did not want to know what this one was- half way through sonographer ( aware of us not wanting to know) asked us what we already had and then was rubbish at disguising what she knew!

neolara · 26/12/2010 23:36

Yes, I did.

We told the sonographer we didn't want to know the sex, but then I looked during the scan and because I knew what to look for, (I'd googled beforehand), I saw what looked like a girl. We couldn't decide if we wanted the sonographer to confirm or not so in the end she wrote the sex down on a piece of paper and put it in a sealed envelope. My dh stuck it to the fridge as a "test of your (my) self-control"! As it turns out, I have an iron will and it stayed glued shut and 20 weeks later, I found out I was right.

our hospital won't reveal the sex- why would they do that??? even if you ask them?

Blackletterday · 27/12/2010 01:03

I thought I saw a willy on ds1's scan (was obviously right), didn't see anything definative on ds2's. I had scans with the boys at Watford and at both 20 week scans they changed from it to he, halfway through Hmm.

They are not allowed to tell you at Watford though, I did happen to mention that we wanted to know at ds2's scan. He was quite emphatic in his he's Grin.

Santassnowyoldclothcatpuss · 27/12/2010 02:07

It's all about the penis apparently! You may think you are looking at testicles, but girls can be quite bulgy too!

BongoWinslow · 27/12/2010 02:21

I definitely saw a my DS's bit and pieces! There was no mistaking them.

GrumpyFish · 27/12/2010 10:41

With DS1 I couldn't tell, there was nothing obvious to see. Now pg with DS2 - we didn't want to find out what we were having, but it was so hugely obvious on the anomaly scan that after half an hour of him waving his bits at us I just had to ask the sonographer whether I was seeing what I thought it was, which she confirmed Grin.

bumpers · 27/12/2010 15:29

flowerfairy - your right, I really didnt want to know but ended up getting an eyeful of something on the screen! She said shortly afterwards 'there's the umbilical cord' so am wondering whether I did see boys bits or whether it was in fact the cord! I didnt want it confirmed so said nothing to the sonographer but she gave no signs otherwise.

I was convinved all the way through that DS1 was a boy which turned out to be right, but not at all sure with this one. But - in reality I would be stunned if it was a girl after what I saw!

The woman doing the scan said its a girl...I think. I wasn't convinced.

OH said he saw it as clear as day and took delight in telling everyone that he'd seen DD's flower! He said there was no mistaking what he saw, and wouldn't let me have a private scan to confirm as it would be a waste!

He was right, she was a DD when she came out!

Gabity · 27/12/2010 15:34

(flower wasn't the word he used by the way!)

Fedallio · 27/12/2010 15:39

Paribus - I think in some parts of country with high ethnic populations it is hospital policy not to reveal sex of child because some cultures favour the male sex and would abort a female foetus. Sad but true.
