Cronic nasal drip

Hello, am new to this but in desperation! I am 7 weeks pregnant (not planned) with my third child! Definatly wasn't going to have any more due to my post nasal drip, but due to this pregnancy I'm determined to sort this out! I have a cronic nasal drip which is a thick clear mucus that constantly drips down the back of my throat. I constanly spit, heave and gag into tissues, worse at meal times, I got through 4 toilet rolls a day and at meal times it makes me gag that much I'm sick! I struggled through my first two pregnancies like this and can't bear the thought of doing this again for another 32 weeks! Any help would be much appreciated!
Thanks x

sorry, not much help here. my sinuses are pretty much like that all the time, but there isn't much to be done that I know of. Have you asked your GP? I have nasal sprays that don't do a lot but do seem to help at bedtime..

Thanks, but asleep is my best time!

Yes, it just makes more, and I'm doing nasal rinse! Thanks for the advise though, think I'm just going yo have to live with it! Another miserable pregnancy! X

Have you tried accupuncture? No scientific evidence for this but I have a friend who finds it very helpful for her sinus problems..

Coppernoddle · 09/01/2011 19:00

Will give it a go! I'm desperate! Thanks x

I used to have terrible nasal drip, especially when I was sleeping - lying down made it worse.

I gave up milk & avoid cream & soft cheese as much as possible, & the difference is astonishing. Now if I have something creamy my nose starts to run straight away. It's so obvious I was having some sort of reaction.

Might be worth trying for a few weeks to see if it helps?

yes good point. I can't eat dairy anyway (IBS) so forgot that one, but dairy does make it worse apparantly :)

I have the same and am 20 weeks now. I gave in and used Flixonase which has cleared it up a treat. You'll need a prescription, and it does take a few days to work.

Good luck! By the way, I have tried every brand of soy milk and I like Provamel, but it's a bit dearer & I've only seen it in Holland & Barratt or health food shops. Cheaper brands: Tesco own brand (blue box) and Asda own brand (blue box, not Smart Price) They taste great chilled with cereal, and they steam really well if (like me) you're a cappuccino drinker. :) IMO Alpro is vile, it's grainy & has a weird aftertaste.

Coppernoddle · 14/01/2011 13:47

Was thinking of trying dairy free! My daughter was intolerant as a child, so have used non dairy products before, will try it, it's worth a go! Ta

I always use store value soya milk, imo they taste better than their own brand, although there isn't much in it.

You can also get soya deserts and yoghurts and soya margarine and even milkshakes which aren't too bad :)

have to admit I don't have it in coffee though thats the only thing I don't like it in but you soon get used to the taste. I can't drink normal if we haven't got any soya its vile in tea lol. And if you go to cafe's, sainsburys will give you soya milk if you ask ;)

RJRabbit · 14/01/2011 18:14

Good luck! Tell us how you get on :)

Coppernoddle · 16/01/2011 10:03

Well the first acupuncture wasn't long enough to have much effect as it was short and I was feeling a little lightheaded and he didn't want to give me needle shock and pass out on him! So next week is going to be a full session! My docs appointment is on Tuesday and i'm going to ask for as much stuff as I can get! Take no prisoners, I want everything!!!!

Dairy is the obvious one to miss out, having given it up I have far less mucus, the other things are banana and fizzy drinks but I find no milk/ dairy produce at all in anything helps.

Coppernoddle · 16/01/2011 17:14

To be honest, I don't eat much dairy anyway! Butter on bread and a little cheeses, that's it! Don't drink fizzy drinks, tea or coffee, or chocolate so don't understand why there's so much!

Hi @Coppernoddle i know it’s been years since this post but I am suffering from thick mucus/post nasal drip like you have described! I’m 18 weeks now and it’s been going on for at least 8 weeks now. It’s horrid. It’s taking over my life. I can spit every second but there’s constantly phlegm in my throat. Did yours get any better? Did it go after you gave birth or did you find anything that helped! Please please advise, I am desperate 🙏🏻
