Body lotion - safe to use in pregnancy? (I know it's weird!)

I've just had a lovely Christmas present - some products from the Cowshed. Lovely.
Quite randomly, waiting for my m/s to ease off this morning, I read the back of the body lotion, and it says 'if pregnant or breastfeeding seek advice when using essential oils'. (Precisely what I'm doing here, right? Grin)

It's a citrus blend body lotion - definitely has red mandarin, petitgrain and grapefruit essential oils. Has others too, but I don't really understand the label: maybe bitter orange, coriander oil, geranium oil, elettario cardomom oil.
I have the matching shower gel which doesn't have the warning on it.

What do you reckon?

Btw I'm 12 weeks. And had a glass of wine today which will surely do more damage than body lotion!!

The best thins to do would be google all the oils. then it will tell you if they are safe for use in pregnancy.
for starters both Mandarin and geranium are safe.

It is weird it's just the lotion. I've been using a cow shed bubble bath thing and it's heaven so hope they turn out ok. You can always save them up fora treat after he aby is born.

There are some essential oils which are supposedly "not" safe - although in which quantities you'd need to consume them I don't know. Is it possible to inhale the entire gift set you received or were you planning to drink it? Wink I'd say enjoy and pamper yourself. Fast forward 8 months and you'll stare down at your dry weathered hands and fiddle with your greasy hair wondering what became of you!

I would google each oil as suggested. It's no the 'inhaling' the oils that's the problem, essential oils are actually absorbed into the bloodstream from your skin - I forget exact stat but somewhere near 80% of what you put on your skin gets into your bloodstream so that is the concern.

At a glance the oils all look ok apart from the bitter orange - I'm not sure on that one but I'm sure a simple google search will tell you.

Its because certain oils have properties which can be bad during certain stages of pregnancy. I dont know all the ins and outs but I remember when I used to be a virgin vie consultant and we did a relaxing bedtime range. The bubble bath contained clary sage which is a strong muscle relaxant and so we had to ensure we told our clients it wasnt suitable during pregnancy as it could bring on early labour. Have to say it didnt work for me cos when I was overdue with dd i bathed in it every night and nothing happened!!Confused!! But still the warnings have to be given. Google is the way I agree Smile

Sorry about the MASSIVE delay in replying (lost my internet connection) and thanks to all! I haven't used it yet, but I have googled and they're ok - one website had one of the oils as a no, but several other websites said it was fine. I'll take a chance - it's my second baby so... Wink
