When should you start monitoring movements/worrying if they stop?

I am 18wks and think I've started to feel the baby move (although still not ruling out wind!) but obviously at this stage it is not very regular. I can't remember from last time round when it is that movements get more regular ? And isn't there an approx number per hour you're meant to be aware of? If anyone could refresh my tired brain I would really appreciate it!

Hiya

They usually advise that you start paying attention to kick counts only from about 24-28 weeks as it can be a bit difficult to feel them consistently before this stage. I went for a whole week with each of my babies at around 18 weeks where I stopped feeling them move after I had started to feel it previously.

I think it's ten in the morning and evening

Ten movements altogether? Ok cool. And you are less likely to feel them when you arebusy and moving around is that right?

No twenty in total :)

My midwife reckoned advice these days is try to work out what your own baby's pattern is and notice any significant changes to that, rather than focus just on the two discrete periods in the morning and evening.

So my baby seems to be active till mid-morning, then quiet most of the afternoon (except for the odd kick or wriggle), before getting active again in the evenings, and my midwife said if I notice she's particularly quiet in the morning and doesn't then seem to 'wake up' to keep an eye on her movement and contact someone if there really is noticeably reduced movement.

She said some babies just won't ever do 10 movements morning and night, and that's OK so long as that's their pattern, so better to tailor the monitoring to the baby's own movements.

I'm 29 weeks but I guess as others have said, from about 24-28 weeks.

I'm 34 weeks, and my midwife goes by the 'ten kicks in total per day' rule... caz, yep, you feel them less the more active you are.
Like spaceal my baby seems to rock out early morning and late evening, and chill out for the rest of the day, so I'm also paying attention to this.
So stressful though, wish they had a kick signal they could use for 'I'm fine' and 'Help!'.
Apparently iced water or ice cream is the thing to take if you've not felt anything for a while, as the cold will wake them up!! Then lie on your left side, and you should start to feel something...

Thanks all that is brilliant and I'm glad I have a few weeks before I turn into a paranoid mess yet again Grin! Because this is my second pg my midwife visits are practically non existent, it's really been cut back in our area, so I feel a bit all alone. Dd is 3 and being pg with her seems like a distant memory!
