Im a first time mum to be and currently live with my long term partner and his mother. I know, sounds a nightmare for most, but actually, we get along really well!
My question is regarding finance, I am currently on a temporary contract at work, so will not receive the usual maternity pay when I finish work around May, to have the baby. This is worrying me quite a lot.
My partner earns approx £300 a week, but we live in his mothers house which she owns, she also works and brings in a healthy wage. Will her wage count toward 'household income' when applying for benefit? as she isn't in any way responsible for the baby??
What assistance will we get, if any. I realise we will receive Child benefit, but will we be entitled to child tax credit? Considering the 'household income' issue?
And will I be entitled to any kind of state paid maternity pay? this has been suggested to me...
Sorry if this all seems a little 'take take' ... but I am not used to the benefit system and my lack of maternity pay is really worrying me.
I will go back to work after the babys born.... but I think I would like a few months at home first, just the same as other Mums who are getting mat pay, I just wonder how we will cope.
