I am only 2 weeks pregnant, well 4 if you count from my last period and already I'm feeling the dreaded nausea.

So I was wondering what your tried and tested remedies are?

Don't let yourself get hungry - snack pretty much constantly (healthy if you can manage it, but don't worry overly if you can't!) - just keep eating, hunger makes it so much worse! Have something by the bed for when you wake up so the first thing you do is eat before you have a chance to feel sick, even if it's just a biscuit or two prior to breakfast. Fizzy sugary drinks - I don't normally like them, but suddenly coke and fanta featured heavily in our house!

Ginger nut biscuits are my saviour at the min

Ice lollies (hydration when water doesn't stay down), mini sausage rolls (small enough to stay down), plain hula hoops, lazy days Ginger snaps (the only ones that work for me), potato anything as long as they are plain, fizzy drinks, bananas and vitamin tablets. This is what I have been living off for the past 21 weeks...

Eat even when you don't fancy. Never let yourself get too hungry.
(I am still surprised DD didn't come out with a biscuity coating)
I agree with icepops.
A trick I got from here was to sniff an orange when the vom-vibe hits. pierce the skin with your nail, and smell. I don't know why it helps, but it does.
Things I learned to avoid : tomato (burns on the way back) popcorn (gets stuck in your teeth even worse on the return journey)

Sleeping/resting as much as you can helps too.

ginger cordial - Waitrose do a good one or its easy to make - just google it.

JBrd · 22/12/2010 12:56

Agree with having something by your bed, so you can nibble before you even get up - made all the difference for me!

Never leave the house without food - cereal bars were a live saver for me, as were oatmeal biscuits. My handbag is still full of crumbs, but I don't care.

Never go hungry, keep eating, even if you think you shouldn't. I really struggled with constant eating, as is went against everything I've been used to, but it does help.

Chewing gum saved me. The act of chewing calms down the stomach and the strong mint flavour took the nasty taste away. I went from never chewing gum to about 12 pieces a day.

I swear by travel sickness bands, don't work for everyone but they helped me.

And coca-cola for breakfast Blush

PuraVida · 22/12/2010 13:14

I bought travel sickness bands and Ginger capsules yesterday. That and eating pretty much constantly are helping I think. I definitely feel better today than I have done

secretknitter · 22/12/2010 13:14

I've gone off the taste of water but I can drink Ribena and weak cocoa (not sweet like hot choc). Also don't go more than 2 hours without eating something. I find a hot cross bun is a good snack, somehow easier to eat than toast.

HavingAnOffDAy · 22/12/2010 13:16

Like most people have said, I found the best thing was to not let myself get too hungry.

The only times I've felt really bad have been when my blood sugar levels have fallen.

I find cereal bars are handy, and loved Weetos during my first pregnancy.

Dandydog · 22/12/2010 15:32

Echo the cereal bars, gingernuts and frequent snacking.
Plus milk, semi-skimmed really helped me - I think it's filling-ish so took the edge off an emptyish tum.
Boiled rice with peas and tuna & sweetcorn...(i went through as phase of this, which my OH willingly ate with me every night, without a whinge or a whine, bless him) x

Vitamin B6!!

I really really suffered last time, but this time just the odd bit of nausea. The difference is unbelievable!

I saw an alternative practitioner (kinesiologist) and had incredibly low levels of B6. I took massive doses which totally changed my af the first month, and then a bfp the next month and now hardly any sickness. I only had the one appointment.

I can not stand ginger after trying it last time, even the thought makes me feel ill when I'm not prg!

nancerama · 23/12/2010 14:25

Apples, celery and raw carrot. Bizarrely all things I couldn't stomach before pregnancy. Also carried a banana and an apple in my handbag all the time in case of (frequent) hunger emergencies!
