I'm nearly 7 wks, so haven't had a booking in appointment, but am just feeling really strange.

I couldn't sleep last night, have had trouble for the last few weeks, but last night I was up on the sofa for two hours so am shattered now. The thing is, I could hear my heart banging away, and I'm still conscious of it now. I also feel slightly short of breath, and have been feeling light headed and spinning out for about a week now.

What do you think? Am I just getting myself all worked up?

I think the kind of 'zombie' feeling is quite common. 7 weeks is when a lot of the major brain/spine/heart development occurs, so there's a lot going on inside!!

You're also still getting used to the idea of being pregnant, with all the excitement and scariness that entails, so there's no wonder you feel exhausted!

You sound how I felt when pregnant with DS (not been so bad this far with this pregnancy). Your blood pressure has probably dropped.
To put your mind at rest you could pop into a pharmacy and ask them to take your blood pressure and see what it says (assuming you don't have your own BP monitor).

It's normal if it is your blood pressure, but if you are worried you could see your doc after (see what pharmacist says) to get it on record and maybe offer some reassurance.

It's one of the reasons it's a tell tale sign to faint in pregnancy (esp early pregnancy).

Go easy, drink plenty of water and make sure you don't get up too quick etc.

Would you believe me if I said this was my 4th?! I don't sound like I know what I'm doing at all lol. Dc's are 21, 19 & 4.5, so the last one was literally like starting all over again!

With the eldest two I had low bp and fainted regularly, but with the youngest I had high bp pretty much from the off until about 25 weeks when it suddenly went back to normal. In lots of ways this feels like my 1st two, but tbh I am worrying about high bp again particularly as I'm 40 now.

I'm stuck at work all day so can't get to a chemist although that's a good idea. I'll see how I feel later.

Thanks.

Hi again,

If you are at work is there an occupational health team onsite? Kinda depends on how worried you are about how quick you get your pressure checked.
Have you had your appt with the Dr yet, telling them you are pregnant so they can put you in the system? If not, this is prime opportunity to make an appt and get your pressure checked at same time.

This is pg no 2 for me but DS will turn 5 when this one is due so it's been a while for me too. This pg is very diff from DS's too (better) but I find I worry more about it than I did with DS. Ignorance is bliss they say!!

Nearly laughed hysterically at occupational health, not likely in our tiny company, but I can but dream!!

I may give birth centre a ring later and just see what they say, it's only down the road so can nip in later if they think I need to.

We don't see the doctor here. Once you get a bfp you phone the mid wife at the birth centre and she deals with everything. Unfortunately due to staff shortages (they're all on ml!) they've stopped doing births there which is a real shame as I had a lovely experience with dd.

My dd will also be just turned 5 when this one is born. How far along are you?

Will be 20 Weeks on boxing day, due mid may (again).

Would be good to get your BP checked, if only to put your mind at rest.
Did they do anything when you had high BP last time?
Good luck and let us know how you get on.

That's a lovely time of year to give birth! My oldest and youngest share the same birthday in July, so I'm glad to have an August baby this time.

No they didn't do anything. Signed me off work to rest at one point, but it was rather scary being tested for PE at 20wks!!

Will report back later.

Did they put it down to stress or something then? Seeing as it went at 25weeks?

harassedinhertinselpants · 21/12/2010 14:56

They said it could be stress or just one of those odd things!!

Has left me with a great case of white coat phobia! I can feel my bp rising and me tensing as soon as someone mentions taking my bp Hmm.
