My sister-in-law needs travel insurance but has a low lying placenta, can't seem to find insurance. Has anyone managed to get insurance?

My husband's travel insurance from his employer covered my trip costs when my doctor recommended that i cancel my trip because of potential pregnancy complications and issued me a typed notice to that extent. the insurance policy is by CSP insurance...

So Lilly, did you actually travel against medical advice and get cover? I'm only 13 weeks but I need to fly monthly and I'm a bit concerned about what might happen later.

thanks lilly - will have a google on that.

I have had various documented problems throughout my current pregnancy. I have travel insurance through my bank account (NW Private) and they are happy to cover me provided I have a fit to fly letter from my consultant.

I don't know whether NW general insurance might be able to help?

NW is that the name or is it short for something?

Hi Mainly, I had a hotel and flight booked before I found out I was pregnant, and was due to fly abroad at 6 weeks (I'd be on my own for a while in a country where I didn't know anyone). I am 35 and 1st pregnancy and never had an mc before, and have some risk factors, so my doctor thought it would be most prudent to not fly in early days. I did not fly and this insurance covered my sunk costs on the basis of a quick note issued by a doctor. The policy basically covers cancellation of travel due to medical reasons, however, it only provides limited cover if one were to go to a hospital abroad (due to injury), and it doesn't really say anything about complication of pregnancy etc whilst travelling...

Should add that Natwest private will cover all medical expenses related to pregnancy and (and this is important because some policies don't) the medical expenses of the baby if it should have to be delivered whilst overseas.
