If your first was 9lb+, how big was your second??

My dd was 9lb3oz, and after being told by numerous people that my bump is already huge (i'm only 16 weeks) and by a midwife that 'you wouldn't really want the baby to be any bigger than the first one' I'm starting to worry slightly about just how big this one is going to be! So I'm really just curious, how much bigger can second babies be if the first one was already pretty big...

dd = 9lb 2 oz born at 40+5
ds = 8lb 15 oz born at 39+2

YourNewFriend · 18/12/2010 20:36

DS1 10lb 1oz (41+3)
DS2 8lb 8oz (38+3)
DD 8lb 15oz (39+3)

Mine were all on the same 'growth lines' but born at different gestations. (ie. They'd all have weighed the same had they'd been born at the same gestation).

dd1 9lb 4oz at 39 wks.
dd2 9lb 2oz evicted at 41wks
ds 8lb evicted at 42wks.

I have to say I was massive with dd2 was nearly 2 stone lighter the day after I had her.

goingroundthebend4 · 18/12/2010 20:42

ds1 8lb.11on time
Ds2 10lb.6 on time
dd 4lb .10 3 weeks early
Ds3 6lb 3 on time

Btw ds2 was the easy less than 90 minutes

onepieceoflollipop · 18/12/2010 20:47

dd1 was 9lb 11 - born at 41+4
dd2 was "only" 8lb 4.5 - born at 40+2 (fab birth by the way, I was on cloud 9 afterwards :) )

The hospital staff kept saying (regarding dd2 "ooh haven't you had a big baby" - I am size 8 and 5'2") I just laughed and said that she was tiny compared to dd1.

Apparently measuring the actual bump is far from accurate. With dd1 I had borderline diabetes and hyperemesis and ate loads of sugar. The consultant said that accounted in part for her larger size.

onepieceoflollipop · 18/12/2010 20:48

lizziemun I was similar, back to pre pregnancy weight within 5 days after dd1. ( big baby and lost a litre of blood which no doubt helped but I don't recommend!)

OmniaParatus · 19/12/2010 16:53

DS was 9lbs 6oz +9d
DD was 7lbs 15oz +4d

I could tell she was smaller as she could move around a lot more in late pg.

It was suggested to me DS was so big because of possible gestational diabetes- apparently urine tests alone are not always sufficient to disgnose this, and sometimes a fasting blood test is needed- maybe you could ask for this if you feel it might have been a factor in your DD's size?

I am currently only 26 weeks with DC3 but I will keep you posted as to what size it ends up!

skinnymalinkylonglegs · 19/12/2010 20:36

thanks OmniaParatus, tbh I've never really worried about diabetes. I didn't think that dd was that huge, and like a few other posters, I had lost all my baby weight after two days. I did have a difficult labour with her though, and I guess when the midwife at the hospital said about not wanting a baby bigger than 9lb, as it would likely cause problems, it got me wondering about just how much bigger this baby could be. I'd kind of forgotten how insensitive/crap some midwifes can be though - so guess I'll need to remember to ignore at least half of what they say! Still glad I asked though - been interesting to see that so many people have had lighter babies after their first :)

DD1 was 9lb 4oz at 39 weeks
DD2 was 10lb 2oz at 41 weeks. The 2nd labour was MUCH easier.

beckie90 · 20/12/2010 12:54

my 1st was only 6ib 11 2 week over, so i cant tell u bout me, but my mum had me 2 week early and i was 9ib 2, and when she was having my sister they told her that she would be even bigger than what i was but she was born 10 days over weighing 8ib

SilveryMoon · 20/12/2010 13:02

Ds1 was 9lb 10oz and ds2 was 7lbs 13oz

SilveryMoon · 20/12/2010 13:06

Sorry, should have added a bit more.
I was told to expect ds2 to be at least a pound heavier than ds1!!!
PANIC MODE
They did a sizing scan close to my due date and said the baby was on course to be about 8lbs

cairns · 20/12/2010 13:11

Ds1 9lb8 long back to back labour 40+10
Ds2 11 lb 0 - by far easier. 3 hr labour. evicted 40+12

I measured and looked big for ds2. Growth scans showed big too except the dodgy one done at 36 wks which said he was normal. I knew he was bigger than ds1 with how my maternity clothes fitted and late pregnancy fatigue.
