Reassure me I've not hurt my baby

Hi, I'm just a bit scared, probably being paranoid but would really love some reassurance that I've not done anything to be concerned about! I'm 27 weeks pg, and even before pregnancy I've never really done any exercise, I drive everywhere and am totally unfit! Last nite me and dh got stranded out at a friends house, had only gone round for tea. We had got a taxi there as I won't drive in snow (dh doesn't drive) and plan was to get taxi home. Because of the snow we couldn't get a taxi, most of our local firms had shut so didn't know what to do! We ended up walking the hour and a half journey home. This morning I've woken up, body in agony, feels like I've run a marathon! I'm worrying tho coz I've had braxton hicks in the night and this morning, not had them before! I assume that's what they r, tightening and pain in my uterus. They r not regular or anything so I've obviously not sent myself into an early labour or anything!!!! Just a bit concerned as to why they have suddenly started happening since walking home. Hope someone can help me xxx

RockChick, I shouldn't think that you've hurt your baby but can you get as much rest as possible today, just put your feet up and relax and tell DH that you are practicing for when you are bfing all day Xmas Smile.

It wouldn't hurt to give your MW a call too, just for some reassurance.

Congratulation on your pregnancy.

I think you hurt because you are not used to do so regularely. My guess is that your baby is fine.

When I was pregnant with DD1, the MW told me that our grandmas had a much easier time than us giving birth because they were walking a lot and generally exercising more (mopping the floor on all fours, cleaning the loundry by hand and walking everywhere.)

I do walk everywhere and it might be just a coincidence but my babies where really active inside and I had 4 very short and easy labours!

Still to be on the safe side, I would give a call the the midwife.

Walking in snow takes a lot more effort than walking on no snow. If you rarely do any form of exercise, then 1 hour and a half hours in the snow is going to work a lot of muscles. If you ache all over then I suspect it's entirely down to the exercise. Also walking apparently helps the baby sleep (the motion can be felt in the womb) so he's probably been more active since you stopped walking and maybe that has contributed to your worries. I walked a lot during my pregnancy (right up to 8 and 1/2 months), it's good for you, do more, you'll be doing a lot when the baby arrives and you'll be pushing around a pram then too! Be careful though in snow and ice you don't want to fall.

I'm obviously not experiencing your 'symptoms' if you are worried you must seek the advice of an HP.

I think your just achey because not you are not used to the exercise. Coldness does not help with acheyness either.

gorionine I think it could be a coincidence as I'm a right lazy tart and I had 2 quickish and easy labours too Xmas Grin. Think its just the luck of the draw on the day.

Rockchick, if you have any concerns, give your widwife a call.

1.5 hours walking through the snow when 27 weeks pregnant is not going to be easy for anyone.

Definitely a coincidence! I walk everywhere never take the lifts, got 2 CS and a 37 h labour beforehand.

OP Put you feet up and call your midwife if worried.

I had a similar experience (minus the exhausting but beautiful snow) a month ago at around 24 weeks...on my last work trip was carrying light luggage with me all over town while running from meeting to meeting, and when I returned home the next day, it hurt my whole uterus to walk! Started with a stitch in my side then would go all around my belly. Doctor thinks it was just muscle pain from the activity/straining...resting at home over the weekend definitely helped!

I'm with everyone here, the baby's fine, rest as much as you can these days, and just check in with your mw.

Thanks everyone, decided to just rest for a day or 2 so been back to bed, then just got up an had a bath, feeling a bit better an my tummy no longer hurting. I'm gunna call my midwife if it starts again, but for now think I'm ok, just panicked this morning! Thankyou all for your advice! Xxx

I would think as well its cos your not used to it xx We got stranded in the snow, the bus would only go along the main A road, 3 miles from home, mainly up hill, and I worried about the same thing, alhough I do walk everywhere anyway. Took us 2 and half hours :( But muscles etc relax when you're pregnant, which means that you would probably feel it more than normally. I always find if I worry about my stomach, it starts hurting as daft as it sounds x

Just to say I had to walk 5 hours in the snow 2 weeks ago to collect DS from nursery. Its 3 miles away, took me 2.5hrs there then the same back. I was exhausted for 3 days following. I was 25 weeks pregnant then. (I had no option the country came to a standstill, DP was stuck on a motorway for hrs and no one else allowed to collect DS).

I'd recommend a few relaxing baths, paracetamol for the aches and lots of rest. Obv if you are worried about baby/any lack of movement you should get checked over.

If it reassures you my BHs are always set off by a) exertion, such as getting up, bending over etc and b)the cold. I always get them almost constantly when I am walking outside in the cold.

It is probably just your uterus responding to the extra exertion and cold last night. REST REALLY WELL today, but if you experience any actual pain, bleeding etc then contact your MW urgently. BUT, I'm sure it will be fine. Just think of some of the things pg women have been through and baby has come out unscathed.

I sang on stage for 2 hours on Friday and I'm 37 weeks - I used to be in a band and they wanted me to come back to do this one off gig as it was booked by people who knew me. I really exerted myself and I was knackered after and worried whether I'd overdone it and got too hot etc. but the baby was bouncing around like usual immediately after and has been since. They are made of strong stuff these babies! BUT listen to your body and if you are still concerned speak to MW. x

I'm 21 weeks and do quite a bit of walking to get around. We had a work lunch on Friday & then I went straight onto a party in the evening (starting 6pm). I wore boots with a slight wedge (less than 2 inches) - even though I didn't do a huge amount of walking (no more than usual) I did a lot of standing. The boots were comfy but by the time I got home I was so knackered - and I hurt all up my legs, groin, hips right into the muscles of lower belly. I've been sore, stiff & achy all weekend from that - but I'm sure it's just muscle/tendon pain from wearing boots my pregnant body isn't used too, along with all the standing in them.

I empathise with you OP - hope you are feeling better now & reassured.
