i seem to be spending this pg either getting bug after bug or spending ages getting over them.

we all had food poisoning on monday night and while ds and dh were fine by wed i'm still wiped out!
it doesn't help that ds didn't sleep brilliantly last night because he had tummy ache due to post d&v consipation. or that dc2 was dancing all night long. or that dh was a very noisy sleeper last night.

how can i stop feeling so exhausted? i'm sick of bloody cbeebies for a start!

I'm in the same position so can't wait to see what answers everyone has. I've been ill most of the time for the past 2 months with only a few days between each illness.

can no one save us from the germs?!?!?!

or are we ALL sick? Shock

maybe i'm searching for the holy grail or some other mythical magical cure Confused

Yep me too. Sooooo fed up. Am only 8 weeks, have had bug after bug, and can't take anything. Am seriously considering avoiding Christmas social things to avoid germ exposure, as am at the end of my tether.

In theory, though, you can avoid colds, sore throats etc by heating up your nasal passages when you feel the first tickle - you can either breathe in with a hairdryer in front of you, or go into a steamy bathroom. It does work if you catch it in time! Disclaimer - not to be tried if you hav breathing problems etc.

Me too! I'm 16 weeks and have been ill constantly, first with morning sickness, then d & v bug and two colds. Soooooooooo fed up!

hazchem · 17/12/2010 13:35

I was truely hoping that this would have some magic advice on it.

I've been in bed for 3 days in a row with yet another cold.
I feel like i only get about 2 weeks and then some other cold thing wipes me out all over again.

Well I can reccommend probiotics- there have been studies that have proven not only to help your digestion if it's a gastro bug and speed up recovery, but also reduces your chances of getting colds etc by quite a lot as they boost your immune system. Me and DS1 are taking Optibac Probiotics 'For your childs health' which are for kids and pregnant women click here for more info: www.optibacprobiotics.co.uk
they aren't cheap but I figured taking them for a few months over the winter period was worth it if it means he catches less bugs, and therefore me too. I've only had a mild cold and have missed a bug that my DH caught altogether.

BelieveInLife · 17/12/2010 16:40

Might try some of them then, worth a go!

I already take pregnacare, exercise daily, drink loads of fresh juice and smoothies and trying to eat even more fruit than usual - none of which seems to help.

soppypreggyloon · 17/12/2010 17:15

been doing pro-biotic yoghurts but maybe need a bigger dose of 'friendly bacteria'

very relieved today as food poisoning tests showed nothing nasty! so avoided antibiotics - which wipe me out even more!

Hi I agree - have been taking Boots advanced mum to be vits which contain probiotics - haven't been ill at all this pg (32 wks) TOUCH WOOD!

greentig3r · 17/12/2010 18:03

How about eating lots of onions, garlic, herbs and spices- I'm sure things like turmeric, thyme etc are supposed to be good for fighting infection.

soppypreggyloon · 17/12/2010 21:00

but not so good for heartburn! Confused

Exercise and fresh air, but I'm rubbish at that. I've bounced from one bug to another this pregnancy too.

SaraL77 · 20/12/2010 14:04

the problem with probiotic yogurts is there isn't enough of the probiotics in them to make them effective enough- you need much higher doses. fruit juices (esp freshly squeezed) are sure to help, but I think there's just so many bugs around right now! I've been religiously washing my hands too to avoid bugs, the flip side- i have really dry hands now- d'oh!

anonMum2 · 20/12/2010 21:03

Been sick 6 times this last month but life goes on for me with my job and toddler. Gone are the days when I can just stay in bed and get well. I had stomach bug again yesterday but when I finally had enough energy in the evening, got up and cooked dinner for DS and (useless) DH.

Last winter was wonderful because there was the swine flu scare so presumably everyone took precautions and there were less contamination/spreading. We were barely ill last year it was great! Not many people I know were ill last year either. Wish there was a scare every autumn/winter and we can then escape all these unnecessary illness.

FindingAManger · 21/12/2010 10:56

wash your hands when you get home, arrive at work etc (esp after travelling on public transport). Or use a hand steriliser gel.

Ensure people don't leave tissues lying around - bin them (I swear I'm about ready to throttle DP over this one).

I take pro-biotic capsules and agree they boost your immune system - still I've been picking up bugs but only mildly affected really.

I'm also drinking Echinacea tea - quite yummy it is too & caffeine free.
