Variable movement at 25 weeks

Hi,

Please can someone reassure me that it's normal for my baby to be turning somersaults and pinging all over the place for a couple of days, followed by a couple of days of much smaller and infrequent movements? The movement seems to vary so much day to day and I never know what is normal - I worry if its too much and worry if it is less! My midwife hasn't spoken to me at all about movement and although I know that the advice isn't to count 10 a day anymore, I actually dont know what I should be looking out for.

Any advice and reassurance gratefully received!! Thank you

Hi, I had my dd 10 weeks ago, so very recent and i was still advised to count to 10 a day, when i needed monitoring which was a few times they would tell me to count the 10 a day and if im still worried get in touch.
If you're worried phone your mw for advice, thats what she is there for :)

At 25 weeks there is no real pattern to a baby's movements, this doesn't really develop until later. So you are completely normal and don't worry! Speak to the midwife if you feel like it, she may offer to listen in to the heartbeat if that will make you feel more reassured. We don't use 10 a day universally, just regular movements throughout the day.

I experienced this from 20-25 weeks. It is anxiety inducing but even the tiniest movement on a quiet day was reassuring. As soon as I hit 26 weeks, movements and their strength have increased a lot.

I find if I lie on my back and put my hands on tummy, baby moves. If not, I poke around and usually get a kick back and then he falls asleep again. Try to find something that stimulates your baby to move. Many people say a cold drink but that doesn't work for me.

eating seems to work for me.. especially something sweet (handy that!) I'm 24 weeks and some days are definitely quieter than other. Lying still on my back doesn't work for me either, I can usually feel more hunched over (on the train/at my desk)

Does your baby seem more prone to movement at certain times? I think the advice I read recently was to focus more on what's normal for your baby.

Presumably at 24 weeks there's still quite a bit of space so I would guess it's that the baby is in different positions as to why you sometimes feel more than others? But as said above, if you're worried there's no harm in calling your midwife and seeing what she has to say.

Thank you everyone - that all makes me feel much better!
