Any ideas for managing the pain of SPD?

Hi lovely ladies just wondered if anyone had any suggestions for managing the pain and discomfort of SPD? Initially all I had was some muscle pain which went with rest and a dose of paracetamol. But today while out and about I noticed that the pain had travelled into my hips, pelvis and lower back and felt like joint pain not just muscle ache. Xmas Sad Am only 33 weeks so know its prob only going to get worse from here on in. Any ideas as to what I can do to help?

rest and see an osteopath. Mine got me through the last weeks of pregnancy and a house move at 36 weeks with little to no pain definately worth the investment if you can't get a referral from GP.

Wear a support belt to hold everything together - an osteo should be able to recommend one. I did find it helped.

Don't cross your legs when you sit, try not to twist when walking/lifting/pushing trolley etc

And sleep on your side with a cushion between your knees.

I got a referal to the physio who I saw today. Flipping incredible - saw the lovliest lady and now feeling reassured that it'll be sorted out.

She's given me some exercises and recommended that I start pilates (which I wanted to do).

After feeling mightily depressed I really am hopeful I'll be OK (I am 21 weeks BTW). Much more about trying to get your muscles to support your pelvis. THe belts should be something later on, if nothing else works.

Ah, also. I ahve got a v pillow thing that I put between my legs when I sleep which helps so much. All about keeping my legs together...which DH is slightly Hmm about.

Thanx ladies, will have a little chat with my GP and try for some physio. Bought a V shape pillow the other day but it was to help me sleep sitting up so I didn't disturb DP with my snoring Blush. Will try it between my legs instead tonight see if that helps. He'll just have to wear his earplugs lol Grin

If you can see an osteo rather than a physio, do so. I think they tend to get quicker results.

pregnancy yoga and acupuncture for me.

acupuncture especially! I managed to get an NHS referral after lots of research and the effect was incredible.

I had shoulder pain (acute tendonitis) and hip pain. both are very diminished now, although still feel stiff first thing in the morning and overnight can be uncomfortable.
