Quick question about EDD for flying at 35 weeks!

Hi,

Despite being 35 weeks pregnant, I still can't seem to get my head around due dates, and cut-off for flying. Please help as I need to book a ticket within 24 hours for a quick (and final!) short-haul flight Grin

My due date is 18 January. So, I am currently in week 35 - I think! My question is when weeks start and end.... and in order to do this accurately for the airline, I need to count backwards from my due date.

Question is - on my EDD, will I have completed 39 or 40 weeks of pregnancy? i.e. is my EDD the day after 39+6 and at 40+0, or at the end of week 40, which technically speaking is surely 40+7. When is your actual due-date supposed to fall?

So, for example, if today I am 35+6, a week from today, will I be in my 36th week or pregnancy, or my 37th?

I know I should be able to work this out by now but in my pregnancy-fuddled brain I seem to be totally confused!

I can understand your confusion. I would interpret end of week 36 to be 36+6 so I think that you are giving yourself an extra week. I live in Cambodia and the current advice is to deliver in Bangkok. People fly from here regularly at 36 weeks...

I don't think that you are nuts. I hope that you have an amazing time and make it back safely before having the labour and delivery 'at home'.

While I was expecting dd2, I was staying in NYC but had my antenatal care back in Ottawa, Canada. The last time I flew I must have been 35 weeks. (I carry my bumps rather compactly so nobody ever asked me for the consultant's note.)

nancy - yes, you're spot on.

As you say, it is a tiny little flight really and no prolonged check-in process, also there are several flights a day if one should be cancelled for whatever reason.

My 'backup' will also be the American Hospital - hear lots of good things about it.

Decision will be taken tonight!

Awww, thanks cadmum Smile

Now Cambodia, that IS exciting!

I think we will go! We are going to the actual airport to try and buy our ticket tonight, showing staff bump and doctor's letter, if they let us go, we'll do it - final fling and all that! Had a scan yesterday, baby is down but not engaged at all, so think/hope we have a few weeks to play with yet.
