Please help my friend with morning sickness + metallic taste

My poor friend is 20 wks preg and unfortunately tends to suffer from morning sickness throughout her pregnancies. She's finding that there's nothing she wants to eat, and the foods that eased the sickness in her previous pregnancies don't seem to be doing the trick this time. She also gets a strong metallic taste in her mouth. Any advice, suggestions for remedies, etc, would be very welcome!

Oops, slight techno breakdown there, didn't realise I'd posted this convo three times! Will get MN to remove the extraneous threads, but in the meantime I'd appreciate any advice re morning sickness. Cheers all.

I had the metallic taste she mentions throughout my pregnancy with ds. I also had morning sickness every day, even the day he was born.
The only things which I could eat were:
Pickled foods eg beetroot and onions - because the taste was so strong it took away the metal taste.
Dark chocolate with mint in it - for the same reason as above.
Poppadoms - bland enough not to make me retch.
Jacobs Crackers - same reason as above.
Pass on my congratulations and sympathy to your friend as it is tough going feeling like that for so long.

I was like Dexter Rocks too. Puked all day, anywhere and everywhere with a special projectile as soon as DD was born.
I second pickled things, salt and vinegar crisps, sour granny smiths, lemons and lemon barley water, schweppes lemonade (shaken to go flat) , satsumas and grapefruit. Oh and tomato juice!

All of those make sense to me KenDodd

Your friend has my sympathies and I agree with the strong flavours to a point but I found they worked short term then made me produce more vile tasting saliva. I don't really want to tell you what eased the metallic taste and ms because it's really bad for you but I really needed it.

Coca Cola. The fizz strips your mouth of the taste and the sugar stops you feeling quite so queasy. It does have to be full fat Coke though. Tried other fizzy things including sparkling water mixed with various cordials but only the coke did it.

Sorry!

Thank you so much, everyone. I've passed on your suggestions to her.

What a fab bunch you are. Grin

The only thing that helped my sickness was a prescription of Cyclizine from my GP. I went from throwing up several times a day to just feeling a bit sick in the mornings. It's worth her checking with her GP to see if she can be prescribed something, especially if the sickness is very bad.

With the metallic taste try using plastic cutlery as the normal stuff can make it worse.

I had cyclizine and stemetil. Made things go from desperate/ dehydrated to manageable.
