Hand Foot and Mouth exposure in late pregnancy

DS I think has it. I'm taking him to the docs first thing Monday morning. Foolishly maybe, I googled, and there can be complications (stillbirth) in late pregnancy. I'm 34 weeks! Can anyone shed any light on how much of a risk this is and what can be done? I couldn't find anything definitive.

When DS had it I was told that it's very unusual for adults to get it as most people have it in childhood and you have immunity from having it once.
I don't think there's anything you can do at this stage to prevent it as you will already have been exposed but please be reassured that it's extremely unlikely you'll get it and, even if you do, complications are even more unlikely.

My nephew had it, and his mum was pregnant at the time, in fact he had it on and off for about a year!! She wasn't given any warnings about complications with her pregnancy. My best friends daughter has it at the minute and all her friends and family are pregnant Grin and we've been given all clear to see her. Sometimes google is not your friend. Good luck and I hope your son starts to feel better.

Ah, so you have to actually catch it as an adult for there to be potential problems? I've no symptoms at all and DSs are so mild as to be vague but this looks like the most likely cause of his itchy hands and feet. I'm going to ask the GP to try and rule it out with whatever tests they do as I think it's only Cocksackie B virus which is the real troublemaker.
