10 wks pregnant & dying with sickness - all day, all night nausea & vomiting. GP prescribed cyclizine last week & I have given it a really good try. All it has done is give me extreme tiredness which is fine at night but not when looking after 2 pre-schoolers.

I really am struggling with this- I am so depressed & miserable. This sickness is unbearable- are there any other medications you have had success with- PLEASE HELP!!!

I got cyclizine at ten weeks (after being in hospital on a drip) and had awful tiredness and dizzyness but after a few weeks it wasn't so bad, so I would say keep at it with the cyclizine.

I'm now 34 weeks and still take one cyclizine in a morning, was on 3 cyclizine and 3 stemetil a day at first and counted down the hours until I could take another tablet it was that bad.

This is my second hyperemesis pregnancy and so glad that dd is seven, am in awe of you coping with two little ones, fingers crossed that the cyclizine works.

I'm still on cyclizine at 30 weeks. The first couple of weeks it did make me really really drowsy and odd, but, honestly, I don't really notice that effect at all any more. It does improve with time. If you feel you can stick with it and it helps the nausea then think about keeping it going. Most/lots of the anti sickness drugs in pg seem to cause drowsyness.

Cyclize only worked for me as injections, and even them it made me very tired and slighlty trippy.

Also tried Stemitil, but Metroclopromide (sp?)was what finally got me out of hospital and stayed out.

GPs are reluctant to prescribe anything other than cyclizine, as it is only cyclizien that it is in their Big Book of Drugs That Don;t Harm Preganant Women or something, but hospital put me on Metroclopromide, and i persuaded GP to talk to hospital pharmacistand he prescribed me more.

You need a youngish GP. Our practice has one who remembers Thalidomide and will not prescribe anything at all to pg women, but will sign them off sick or organise social services to help with other DC.

Thanks ladies, older GP this time & was less sympathetic- it will pass, sign of a healthy pregnancy... Blah, blah.

Said I couldn't cope with vomiting & nausea& cyclizine left me comatosed(sp?). Pescribed me prochlorperazine. Anyone tried this- any success. Feeling so so desperate- wonder why I thought another baby would be a good idea?

Hi chocolate, did you have this sickness with your first two pregnancies?

Is tiredness making it worse? If so try to recruit help with your children so you can sleep.

Keep going with the cyclizine the tiredness should ease off soon. It knocks me or six for teh first week or so taking it, but once im passed that I feel normal after taking them regularly :)

Hi Choco, my older gp would only give me metroclopramide (which didn't help) as it works by clearing out your stomach and would only give me a couple of weeks worth.

Went back to doctors seen a different gp who tested my urine, ketones 4+ and ended up in hospital (on a drip) as even my own saliva was making me sick.

Consultant gave me cyclizine (3 times a day) and prochlorperazine (3 times a day). Cyclizine works differently to the metroclopramide, more to do with your brain than stomach. The cyclizine does make you feel weird but it's worth trying for a couple of weeks if it helps as the side effects usually wear off.

I hate that people see it as just 'morning sickness' and they don't realise how soul destroying it can be to feel so ill all the time.

Might be worth asking your midwife to refer you to consultant at your ante natal clinic as they see more women with hyperemesis than gps do. Sorry to go on really hope you feel a bit better soon.
