I have been training for a half marathon in one week and just found out that I am five weeks pregnant. Does anyone know if it is safe for me to run if I have been training for the past three months???

i would have thought so, as long as you cut the strenousness down a bit and be very careful not to overheat.

i would ask your doctor if your unsure but i think it should be ok to continue if you're body is already used to that sort of exercise, doesnt hurt to check though

I was reading up about exercise in pregnancy yesterday and it said that if you have been doing it previously then it's fine to carry on with the exception of sit ups or anything laying on your back.

It did say you should be careful not to overheat as this is a major risk to the baby and I thik it said not to let your heartrate go over 145.

It was all on this website

the blonde model from Leeds is pregnant and has just done the Great North Run (if only I could remember her name.....)
She took it steady, didn't get out of breath, kept hydrated and kept cool.

I ran until 26 weeks, kept my HR below 160. Using a heart rate monitor helps otherwise you keep having to stop and check it. I probably would have kept going longer, but it was the height of summer and even walking was getting to be uncomfortable.

Hello to all, i am a mum of 2 lovely girls aged 3 and 1.Both my daughters were born 6 weeks premature, and were ventilated in special baby care unit.Thankfully they are now both doing very well.I have recently started a college course:Access To Health Professions.I aim to study midwifery next september.I am at present doing a research project as part of my course,i have decided to do this on kangaroo care.Kangaroo care is used in some special baby care units,it involves skin on skin contact for mother or father and their premature baby.what do you think/know of this? Any feedback would be appreciated.Thanks.

hi Acorn - gingerbear was talking about Nell McAndrew, she just ran the great north run 2 weeks ago and just took it easy. it took her 1 hour 38 mins to run 13 miles - WOW!
I am ttc and am also training for a 10k run and was worrying as you are. Its in 2.5 weeks time and with my 1st pregnancy i felt exhausted all the time at the begining.. would love to know what your doc says...

I ran until 30 weeks in my last pg using a heart monitor on my doctors advice. Was quite fit before that though so managed a 30-40 minute slow jog without getting hot. Did find anything hard work in the early weeks. Nowhere near as fit this time so am sticking to my sofa!
